  • Players on PC can now use the PlayStation Accessories app to customize their DualSense Edge controllers.

As a long-time gamer with memories of countless controllers worn out from years of intense gaming sessions, this latest development from Sony is music to my ears! The ability to customize my PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers on my PC is not just convenient, but it also adds a level of personalization that I’ve never experienced before.

Using PlayStation controllers on Windows PC just got better.

On Tuesday, Sony introduced an update to the PlayStation firmware updater for computers, rebranding it as the PlayStation Accessories app. With this new application, gamers can now personalize their PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers directly from their PCs. This customization allows for button remapping, adjusting thumbstick sensitivity, and fine-tuning trigger deadzones.

Users have the option to create various personalized profiles, making it simple to switch from a fast-paced shooter game like Call of Duty to a slower-paced adventure game such as God of War without needing to readjust your controller settings every time. You can immediately download the PlayStation Accessories app for easy access.

Analysis: A cool offering for a higher-end controller

As a devoted PlayStation enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a tinge of excitement as I witness the rollout of the new DualSense Edge. While it seems this upgrade is primarily geared towards those who decide to invest in the $200 model, us loyal DualSense owners still get to enjoy software updates. It’s fascinating to observe this development, even if I’m not directly partaking in it just yet.

Over time, Sony’s PlayStation platform has increasingly been offering compatibility with PC, such as introducing Trophies on PC, beginning this year with Ghost of Tsushima.

As the array of PlayStation Studios titles gracing Windows PCs grows, so does the number of PC games leveraging the distinctive haptic feedback and adaptive triggers offered by the DualSense controller. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Returnal, once exclusive to PlayStation consoles, are now partaking in this experience.

In the future, details about PlayStation’s new game lineup remain unclear, but it is confirmed that God of War Ragnarök will be available on PC starting September 19, 2024. Additionally, the remake of Until Dawn and LEGO Horizon Adventures are scheduled for release on Windows PC in October 2024 and later in the same year, respectively.
