Speak No Evil Featurette Explores the Real-Life Origins of the Remake

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast who has braved countless virtual nightmares, I can confidently say that the upcoming film “Speak No Evil” has piqued my interest like no other. The chilling premise, inspired by real-life events, adds an unsettling layer of authenticity that sends a shiver down my spine.

The upcoming horror film “Speak No Evil” is a fresh adaptation of the 2022 Danish movie “Gaesterne,” but what adds to the chilling atmosphere is that the original story was based on real-life events, albeit not as grim as portrayed in either movie. In a recent behind-the-scenes look at “Speak No Evil,” director and co-writer of the Danish film, Christian Tafdrup, shared how the idea stemmed from an experience he had during his vacation, where he pondered what would transpire if he accepted an invitation to spend more time with a seemingly amiable family. Tafdrup also revealed that shortly after the release of the original movie, Blumhouse reached out to him with plans to create their own version of the story. You can watch the new featurette below before “Speak No Evil” hits theaters on September 13th.

In a delightful twist, a weekend getaway at a picturesque English countryside manor of acquaintances met on holiday for an American family turns into a chilling psychological horror instead of the dream vacation they had anticipated. Hailing from Blumhouse, the studio behind films like “The Black Phone,” “Get Out,” and “The Invisible Man,” comes a suspenseful thriller that resonates with our contemporary times. The film features James McAvoy, a BAFTA award-winner known for his roles in “Split” and “Glass,” delivering an enthralling performance as the seemingly friendly estate owner whose gracious hospitality hides a terrifying darkness within.

In a new movie titled “Speak No Evil,” Mackenzie Davis (“Terminator: Dark Fate,” “Halt and Catch Fire”) and SAG award-winning actor Scoot McNairy (“Argo,” “A Quiet Place Part II”) play the roles of an American couple, Louise and Ben Dalton. Along with their 11-year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler from “The Good Nurse” and “Riverdale”), they accept a weekend getaway invitation from Paddy (played by Michael Fassbender), his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi, known for “Game of Thrones” and “The Fall”), and their mysterious, silent son Ant (newcomer Daniel Hough).

Speak No Evil, a chilling horror film helmed by James Watkins who’s known for Eden Lake and The Woman in Black, is adapted from the 2022 Danish smash-hit Gaesterne. This screenplay was penned by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup, a duo whose work garnered 11 nominations for the Danish Film Awards, which is similar to the Oscars in Denmark.

The horror film “Speak No Evil” is made by Jason Blum, who has also created “Five Nights at Freddy’s” and “M3GAN”, and produced by Paul Ritchie, known for “McMafia” and “The Ipcress File”. Beatriz Sequeira, Jacob Jarek, and Christian Tafdrup serve as executive producers under Blumhouse.

Speak No Evil lands in theaters on September 13th.
