La Bamba remake

La Bamba remake

As a film enthusiast who has seen more than my fair share of biopics and remakes, I must admit, the news of a La Bamba remake has me both intrigued and skeptical. On one hand, the original 1987 film was a gem, capturing the essence of Richie Valens and his music, while also paying homage to the early days of rock. On the other hand, Hollywood has a history of botching remakes, especially when it comes to musical biographies.

The catchy tune ‘La Bamba’ starts the song with the same name, and while we believe that to be accurate, it could also be interpreted differently. In 1987, a film titled ‘La Bamba’ was released, which served as a biography of Mexican music sensation Richie Valens. This movie was a success, earning $54 million, catapulting Lou Diamond Phillips into the spotlight for a time, and receiving a nomination for Best Drama at the Golden Globes. Now, approximately 40 years later, there’s talk of remaking ‘La Bamba’.

The movie will honor the early era of rock music and a gifted young artist who transcended borders through his music, only to tragically perish in a plane crash at 17 along with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. José Rivera, who earned an Oscar nomination for “The Motorcycle Diaries” and “On the Road,” is set to write the script, which may include fresh biographical details that have emerged since the initial movie’s release.

Let’s cross our fingers that it surpasses the disappointing ‘La Bamba 2: Hell Is a Drag’, released in 2013. This movie was so poor, it might even have outdone its own sequel expectations. The story is set 100 years after the demise of Ritchie Valens, and follows Rob Fatal as he navigates through the underworld, grappling with concepts like fame, faith, individuality, and personal ambitions. However, words like ‘awful’ barely capture its subpar quality.

The La Bamba remake will be helmed by Sony studios
