Avatar: Sigourney Weaver Confirms She Will Appear in Series Through Fifth Movie

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various virtual worlds, I can confidently say that the upcoming Avatar franchise installments have me absolutely hyped! The first film was a groundbreaking cinematic experience, and the second one only solidified its status as a modern masterpiece.

In a powerhouse display at the box office and receiving numerous Oscar nominations, the Avatar series has turned into something extraordinary. Created by James Cameron, these movies have taken viewers on a journey to the alien planet of Pandora for two decades, with the third installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, set to release in 2025. The director himself has hinted at more films in the franchise, with at least two additional ones planned, and we now know that one cast member will be reprising their role for these sequels. Sigourney Weaver, who played Grace Augustine in Avatar and Kiri in Avatar: The Way of Water, has recently discussed her involvement with the franchise in an interview with Deadline. When questioned about her participation in the currently unnamed fourth and fifth films, Weaver confirmed, “Indeed, I believe I’m allowed to say that.”

“When I initially read the script for ‘Avatar’, it was filled with descriptions of these blue people with elongated ears and tails riding on floating mountain creatures. I never thought it could be filmed, but boy was I wrong! I’m so glad James Cameron made this vision a reality, and that the success of the films has allowed us to keep creating them. In fact, I recently completed work on ‘Avatar 3’, and I believe the series will only get more impactful as it continues.”

As a gamer, I can tell you that the scripts for Avatar 4 and 5 have been penned, as Weaver revealed. We already know these stories are fantastic. However, it seems Jim is still working on number 3. It’s exciting to anticipate what’s coming next!

What Will Avatar 3 Be About?

In the sequel titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash“, we’ll not only delve deeper into the storyline introduced in “The Way of Water“, but also introduce a previously unseen Na’vi clan, known as the “Ash People”. This new tribe resides within volcanoes. The cast from “The Way of Water” recently shared with ComicBook their excitement about the potential possibilities that this upcoming film might offer.

In approximately 2015, Sam Worthington shared, his wife (who was expecting at the time) and he were moving around a room filled with visuals. These visuals depicted the narrative of a family story across multiple movies, although at that point, it wasn’t definitive if they would become films. Instead, it was more like Jim [Cameron] sharing a captivating campfire tale with us. As I prepared for the arrival of my child and embarked on this potential family journey, I found an intriguing similarity between our impending adventure and the story being told. If we were fortunate enough to share the complete saga, it would be truly remarkable, Worthington added.

As a gamer, I’ve got the lowdown on parts two and three of whatever we’re talking about here. So, having seen it all unfold, I can confidently say that… Well, during our recent table read, we went over parts two and three, and let me tell you, it was like diving right into the heart of the story. We dedicated a full two days to reading through the whole movie from start to finish.

Avatar: Fire and Ash will be released exclusively in theaters on December 19, 2025.
