As I delve into this heartwarming saga of love and growth, it seems that the lives of Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor have taken an unexpected turn. Their journey through the tumultuous waters of their relationship has been well-documented on reality TV, but now they are navigating the realities of life off-screen.
Brittany Cartwright is raising her glass high and looking ahead.
A short while after the actress from ‘The Valley’ officially filed for divorce from her husband Jax Taylor, ending their five-year union, she posted a fresh picture on social media on August 27th, accompanied by the caption “Regaining my luster.”
Following the submission of legal documents, the Bravo celebrity has shared a fresh update, signifying that her estrangement from the former cast member of Vanderpump Rules, which was announced six months ago, is now officially underway.
Based on court records obtained by TopMob News, Brittany affirms that she and Jax have been apart since the end of January, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of their breakup. She is additionally seeking primary legal and physical custody of their son, Cruz (who is 3 years old), while allowing Jax visitation rights.
Furthermore, the celebrity similarly asked for the court to cease granting either herself or her former spouse the right to receive alimony.
This year, Brittany shared insights on adapting to their changed circumstances following the separation, which also involved discussions about the possibility of them dating others.
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News in June, she mentioned that, from the outset, we had the option to gauge reactions from others if we chose to. She acknowledged that this may appear unusual or even a bit reckless to many, but it was our desired approach.
Despite some conjecture regarding their positions following their split, Brittany made it clear that she was focusing on moving ahead with her life.
Brittany emphasized that they remain apart, “We’re definitely still apart,” she said. Regarding their difficult situation depicted on the show, The Valley, she stated, “It’s undeniably painful to witness and endure these struggles in such a public manner. However, as you will see in the finale, I was driven to make this decision. I would never choose to do this or have all this turmoil in my life if it wasn’t an absolute necessity.”
Keep reading for a look back at everything that led to their breakup.
Prior to their wedding, back in the year 2017, it was discovered that Jax Taylor had been unfaithful to Brittany Cartwright. This indiscretion occurred when he became involved with a former SUR waitress named Faith Stowers.
On the occasion, Jax openly acknowledged that he had previously been caught dishonestly, as the events unfolded on Vanderpump Rules. Previously, he had spent extended periods denying any wrongdoing, but this strategy didn’t prove successful for him.
However, though Brittany had parted ways with him following devastation, they reconciled several months afterward and ultimately tied the knot in 2020.
Skip ahead to February 2024, Brittany disclosed that she and Jax, parents of their 2-year-old child named Cruz, had ended their four-year marriage after a separation.
The speaker, originally from Kentucky, admitted that marriages can be challenging in general, and they’ve had a particularly difficult year. On their podcast “When Reality Hits “, they disclosed that they and their partner are spending time apart. To prioritize their mental well-being, they opted to move into another residence.
Brittany mentioned, “I’m dealing with things as they come, not sure about what lies ahead, but for now, I’m dedicating myself to being an outstanding mother to Cruz.”
A month down the line, the fissures in their relationship grew increasingly noticeable upon the unveiling of Bravo’s latest show trailer titled “The Valley“.
Brittany openly shared her feelings, saying, “It seems like he’s not romantically interested in me, and we never engage in any intimate moments.” Then, Jax lamented, “Marriage can be incredibly challenging at times.”
Plus, costar Janet Caperna teased in the clip, “There’s a rumor about Jax cheating online.”
However, Jax slammed allegations of infidelity days after the trailer release.
He shared with TopMob News during the March 14 premiere of The Valley that there are some minor difficulties in their communication. He emphasized that this is the only issue at hand, and there’s nothing else going on. He reassured everyone that there’s no infidelity or cheating involved. Instead, he explained, it’s a matter of communication. Although surprising, people sometimes have disagreements, and that’s just how life can be.
He mentioned, “We cross paths daily,” but the unique aspect is that we maintain separate living spaces – nothing more than that.
Contrary to the whispers, I’m here to clarify that it wasn’t Jax’s infidelity that sparked our split. Instead, I’ve decided to share the authentic tale of when we parted ways.
35-year-old shared with TopMob News on March 18 that we had a severe argument, leading me to gather my belongings. Since January 24, I have been residing in an Airbnb.
She mentioned that she’s taking this action to maintain her emotional well-being. Moreover, she feels quite firm about her choice to take a break for a while.
Regardless of their personal differences, the separated pair found common ground: Both believe they’re acting in the best interests of their two-year-old child.
Jax made it clear to TopMob that he is undeniably number one in their eyes, and they both share this understanding. It’s about recognizing he has two devoted parents who adore him deeply, ensuring he will live his best life, regardless of whether they stay together as a couple.
Regarding the escalating conflicts, Brittany concurred, expressing her desire, “I simply don’t wish for our son to experience such a lifestyle as normal. I don’t want him to grow up believing that it’s acceptable to live in that manner.”
Brittany admitted in March that “there’s always hope,” but she just needs Jax to put in the work.
As a devoted admirer, I shared with TopMob that no one may ever love Jax as deeply as I have, given the years we’ve walked together and the hardships we’ve faced side by side. If he addresses the changes I’ve requested, there might be a chance for us to reconcile, but for now, I need time to focus on myself. I feel incredibly strong and proud for standing up for what’s best for me, prioritizing my mental well-being above all else.
One individual, not particularly surprised by the split between Jax and Brittany, was none other than their ex-SUR boss – Lisa Vanderpump.
The former Real Housewife expressed that everyone assumed their marriage wouldn’t endure, as she put it to TopMob. They would say, “This relationship won’t hold up,” but she generally preferred not to jump to any hasty conclusions.
She speculated, “I’m not certain, but I suspect it had something to do with Jax’s misconduct. Usually, a person’s actions in the future are influenced by their past actions.”
According to their long-term companion, Scheana Shay shared with TopMob News on March 23, “In my opinion, this is what’s best for them.” She added, “I believe she deserves more and a partner who will value and respect her.”
And the couple’s The Valley costar Kristen Doute agreed with Scheana.
Kristen acknowledged feeling proud of Brittany for establishing boundaries regarding her decisions. However, she remains optimistic that they can resolve their issues. Yet, she emphasized, it’s up to Jax, not Brittany.
On the June 4th season finale of “The Valley”, Brittany challenged Jax over the alleged hurtful remarks he made towards her in private settings.
According to Kristen Doute, he admitted saying things like, “I realize I treat you badly. I acknowledge being unkind. I admit calling you fat and telling you that you’re lazy, and that you won’t have friends if you two split up.”
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News in June, Brittany stated that we had discussed the possibility of trying out our ideas with others if we chose to. It may sound unusual or even a bit unconventional to many, but that was our intention.
In July, Jax publicly announced that he planned to attend an in-patient facility for mental health care, following years of pleas from Brittany for therapy.
The VPR alum mainly credited son Cruz as the reason he saught professional help.
In an Instagram post dated July 31, Jax expressed, “Striving to improve for you, my friend,” accompanied by a picture of him giving a kiss to the little one’s cheek. “I adore you.” (Paraphrased)
Seven months since their split, Brittany formally ended the relationship in August 2024 by filing for divorce. In the court documents we’ve obtained, she cited “unresolvable disagreements” as the reason. She requested primary legal and residential custody of their three-year-old son Cruz, with Jax allowed visitation rights.
