As a seasoned movie reviewer with a penchant for all things Tolkien and a soft spot for intriguing characters, I must say that The Dweller, portrayed by the talented Bridie Sisson, has certainly left an indelible mark on me. Her mysterious demeanor and enigmatic pursuit of the Stranger have kept me hooked since the first episode, and her tragic demise in the season finale was a bitter pill to swallow.
At the conclusion of The Rings of Power’s first season, there were several heartbreaking deaths, among them was the venerable Sadoc Burrows, portrayed by Lenny Henry.
But one demise fans won’t have been too sad to see was that of The Dweller.
In the last episode of season 1, one of the trio of Mystics faced off against the peaceful giant in a dramatic confrontation, having lured the Harfoot tribe into a trap while searching for Daniel Weyman’s Stranger, whom Bridie Sisson portrayed as The Dweller.
However, it didn’t end well for her, with the three Mystics appearing to be destroyed.
However, is it truly the final goodbye for them? The showrunners, JD Payne and Patrick McKay, have hinted at a possible comeback.
Payne told Vanity Fair: “You’re seeing what is underneath the form that they’ve been presenting.
“Did they suffer a permanent loss, or was their defeat only temporary? This is a point worth considering as it could influence people’s thoughts.”
Who is The Dweller in The Rings of Power?
The Dweller is a puzzling character chasing after the equally perplexing individual known as “The Stranger,” who made an entrance into Middle-earth as a meteor in the initial episode.
In the fifth episode of the series, titled “Partings,” we’re introduced to The Dweller, who joins forces with Edith Poor, known as The Nomad, and Kali Kopae, referred to as The Ascetic.
From a hilltop overlooking Rhovanion, the three observers watch as The Stranger’s crash site remains undisturbed, until eventually, The Dweller descends to examine the crater more closely.
Initially, when the character made an appearance in the show previews, it led many to believe that they were mistakenly identifying this character as the Dark Lord, Sauron, who was portrayed by Anson Boon on screen.
Later on, Executive Producer Lindsey Weber revealed to TIME that Bridie Sisson was the actress playing this role.
We’re really enjoying the online chatter, and we’d like to share that Bridie Sisson is an exceptional talent when it comes to acting.
“Additionally, we considered it may be interesting for fans to learn that her persona embarks on a journey to the Eastern realms – originating from the lands of Rhûn…”
People originating from the land of Rhûn, as depicted in Tolkien’s works, are often associated with large armies and have a history of forming alliances with Sauron.
In the concluding installment, nevertheless, The Dweller tries to ensnare the Harfoots but meets his match in The Stranger. Together with Nori, she then sets off towards Rhûn. Might this mark the end of her story?
