As a researcher exploring budget-friendly gaming desktop PC builds, I’ve found that the process can become quite daunting when considering individual components, especially graphics cards. These components often cause the total cost to spiral upwards rather swiftly.
While it may seem that high-end GPUs are superior in all aspects, budget GPUs should not be overlooked. Some of them can deliver remarkable performance when used for 1080p gaming at approximately 60Hz, with graphics settings maximized.
It appears Acer is aiming at a specific goal with their debut of the Predator BiFrost Radeon RX 7600 OC GPU, priced between $249.99 to $319.99. This becomes even more attractive when it goes on sale and drops in price.

However, the Acer BiFrost Radeon RX 7600 OC holds a strong position, making it an attractive option, especially if its price drops significantly during sales promotions.
This entry-level graphics card delivers remarkable gameplay speed, averaging approximately 85 to 102 frames per second (FPS) in Cyberpunk 2077’s demanding benchmark when set to the ‘Ultra’ setting at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. After several test runs, temperatures reach approximately 70°C, which is well within safe limits. Anything below 85°C is perfectly normal, especially considering the high graphical settings and expectations for performance above 60 FPS.
During gaming, the frame rate stays consistently good, except for a few issues when loading a new save. The BiFrost RX 7600 OC generally handled things smoothly, but it would strain under heavy physics calculations with aged enemies and intense particle effects from explosions, as is typical of any graphics processing unit (GPU).
A look back at the performance of Forza Horizon 4 on slightly older titles reveals remarkably high results, with the BiFrost RX 7600 OC averaging approximately 217 frames per second using the Ultra preset at 1920 x 1080p. Being one of the most optimized PC games globally, it’s expected that even basic hardware can handle its open-world racing environment with ease. This remarkable performance is achieved when running the game at Ultra settings in Full HD (1080p), and the overclocked 7600 graphics card never faltered in keeping up a smooth frame rate. These test results suggest that the 8GB BiFrost is well-suited for gamers who prioritize high frame rates at 1080p, even though it may not quite reach the popular 144 Hz refresh rates on some top-tier gaming monitors. Still, achieving 120 FPS is more than sufficient.
RX 7600 OC: The competition
It seems like I’m repeating myself, but it’s hard to ignore the reign of Intel’s A750 in the affordable desktop GPU market. The 8GB Sparkle Arc A750 Titan OC, available at Amazon for as low as $199.99 (originally $259.99), is a popular pick for gamers who prefer current titles. However, it’s worth noting that Intel’s drivers may not perform optimally with older rendering techniques, which could be a concern for some users.
My fiancée uses a first-party Intel Arc A750 Limited Edition (pictured above) to play World of Warcraft: The War Within at 4K and other titles around 1440p, but she never opts for ‘ultra’ graphics settings, sticking with medium to high. Picking up an NVIDIA RTX 4060 with 8GB of VRAM will set you back around $289, and a 4060 Ti with the same amount of memory jumps to around $389. At the $250 mark, Acer offers some great value and even beats out my beloved 12GB Ventus RTX 3060 from MSI.
