V/H/S/BEYOND First Teaser Trailer Released

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with a soft spot for found-footage horrors and sci-fi tales, I must say that the upcoming V/H/S/BEYOND has piqued my interest significantly! With the shift from horror to sci-fi, it’s like the creators are taking us on an intergalactic rollercoaster ride. The inclusion of genre stalwarts like Mike Flanagan and Justin Long is a testament to the series’ commitment to delivering high-quality content.

The V/H/S anthology series, where rising filmmakers showcase their skills, is taking a new direction with V/H/S/BEYOND. Instead of focusing solely on horror stories as previous installments did, this new series delves into the realm of science fiction. Although it maintains the format of first-person vignettes, it also brings in established names such as Mike Flanagan and Justin Long. The initial teaser for V/H/S/BEYOND can be viewed below before its release on Shudder on October 4th.

The lineup of filmmakers is as follows:

  • “Stork”: Directed by Jordan Downey, Screenplay by Downey & Kevin Stewart
  • “Fur Babies”: Written and Directed by Christian Long & Justin Long
  • “Live and Let Dive”: Directed by Justin Martinez, Story by Martinez & Ben Turner, Screenplay by Ben Turner
  • “Dream Girl”: Directed by Virat Pal, Written by Pal and Evan Dickson
  • “Stowaway”: Directed by Kate Siegel, Written by Mike Flanagan
  • And a Special Presentation by Jay Cheel

“The movie ‘V/H/S/BEYOND’ was created by Josh Goldbloom, James Harris, and Michael Schreiber, with Adam Boorstin serving as executive producer. This film builds upon the success of the sixth installment in the series, ‘V/H/S/85’, which premiered on October 6, 2023, breaking records as the most-watched exclusive film debut of the year for both Shudder and AMC+.”

Originally, the movie “V/H/S” emerged during a period when numerous filmmakers were trying to capitalize on the success of “Paranormal Activity.” Both independent producers and large studios were eager to replicate the same response from audiences. However, a common issue with all found-footage films is the assumption that someone had to discover the footage initially before it could be compiled into a cohesive narrative. The creators of “V/H/S,” though, innovatively tackled the format by introducing characters who stumbled upon VHS tapes, each tape revealing its own horrors. In a way, this structure serves as a self-reflective critique on the increasing use of found footage in filmmaking.

The initial post highlighted collaborations from Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard, who are working on the reboot of Face/Off, alongside Ti West, responsible for the trilogy X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. Since then, several other filmmakers associated have moved forward with significant studio productions.

V/H/S/BEYOND is set to hit Shudder on October 4th.
