Once again within a brief span of days, Vin Diesel posted a sneak peek from the upcoming film “Riddick: Furya” on social media, his second such sharing this week. This action-packed blockbuster will find Diesel reprising one of his most distinctive roles as Riddick, a character he first brought to life in the hit movie “Pitch Black.” The fourth live-action installment of Riddick’s story, this film will be the first new Riddick production since 2013. Throughout the years, Diesel has shown particular enthusiasm for Riddick, keeping faith in the possibility of another movie even when it seemed unlikely that studios would be on board. Besides his role as Dominic Toretto, Riddick is the character that Diesel has appeared most dedicated to.
Despite starring in major film franchises worldwide, Diesel has found it challenging to find time for the production of “Furya,” a project that has been in development since around 2019. Earlier statements by Diesel suggested that filming would commence in 2021; however, the exact state of pre-production remains uncertain, and it’s possible he expressed readiness due to studio satisfaction with David N. Twohy’s screenplay.
A recently released backstage photo depicts Vin Diesel as Riddick, driving a vehicle with a cameraman sitting beside him. It appears they are filming a scene where Riddick is engaged in conversation. This comes after Vin Diesel shared an image of himself in costume and perched precariously on a cliffside last week.
Initially portrayed by Diesel in the film “Pitch Black”, Riddick became one of his most memorable early characters. Subsequent worlds related to Riddick were depicted in “Chronicles of Riddick” and “Riddick”. Since the 2013 release of the latter, there have been persistent whispers that Universal is working on a fourth film installment.
You might recall that Furya is the planet where Riddick resides, and in the movie “Riddick”, he was striving to protect it. In a 2019 social media message, Diesel’s son seems to have shared the slogan, which can be interpreted as: “Many desire to act like a beast, but few are willing to perform the actions that true beasts undertake.”
