As a lifelong fan of Tim Burton’s eccentric and whimsical films, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” It’s been over three decades since the original film graced our screens, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting a chance to revisit the spooky world of the afterlife.
Approaching 4 decades since Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice” premiered in cinemas, this iconic spooktacular movie has remained a favorite for fans seeking a blend of chills and laughter. Michael Keaton, who played the title role, is back with Burton in the long-anticipated sequel. Titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice“, the film will be released in September. In addition to Keaton, it will also feature Winona Ryder reprising her role as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara returning as Delia Deetz. The cast also includes Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Danny DeVito. After its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, initial reactions to the movie are now circulating online.
“@ema_sasic tweeted: Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice is spooktacularly entertaining! Burton pays tribute to his initial project while broadening the characters and universe, resulting in a charming new tale. The entire cast excels, providing numerous chuckles. The afterlife is filled with fantastic scenes as well.”
I was totally caught off guard but absolutely thrilled to discover that Beetlejuice was an absolute blast! It was zany, weird, and heaps of fun, just as @ldbahr put it.
“@DavidCRooney1 expressed that, despite my skepticism due to excessive punishments and delayed sequels, I was completely taken aback by the sheer fun I had with BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE, which, according to him, is Tim Burton’s best and funniest movie in years.”
According to RachelLeishman, “#BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice” is strange yet charming, making it an excellent follow-up to the 1988 movie.
“@PNemiroff expressed great joy over #BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice, appreciating how the new film feels like a fun return to the original’s universe. Michael Keaton delivers flawlessly. The dynamic between Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega as mother and daughter particularly resonated with him, adding emotional depth to the movie. He was fond of the creative idea for Willem Dafoe’s character, a former actor turned cop in the Afterlife. All performances were well-received by him, but @PNemiroff couldn’t help but single out Catherine O’Hara for her outstanding performance and perfect fit within the film’s world.”
“Tim Burton’s classic quirkiness shines through in Beetlejuice, offering both nostalgia and brilliance. It serves as a heartfelt homage to the 1988 movie, as well as global cinema. Michael Keaton, once again, brings his charm, with his humorous and outstanding portrayal,” @ScottDMenzel notes.
What Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice About?
“The official summary for Beetlejuice reveals that Beetlejuice is back! Following an unfortunate family accident, the Deetz family – consisting of three generations – return to Winter River. Haunted by none other than Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life takes a turn when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, stumbles upon a peculiar model of the town in the attic and accidentally opens the gateway to the Afterlife. With chaos brewing on both sides, it won’t be long before someone utters Beetlejuice’s name three times, summoning the mischievous spirit to wreak havoc.”
Michael Keaton once told Empire magazine that “Beetlejuice” is the most delightful and enjoyable work experience you could have. “It’s such fun, it’s so fantastic,” he said. “What makes it special is that we’re making it just like the first movie… There’s a woman in the grand afterlife waiting room who uses a fishing line to move a cat by pulling on its tail – I thought this detail was important to mention because I really appreciate it.”
Years ago, Burton and I had a secret chat about this project, swearing we’d never reveal it to anyone. If it ever comes to life, let me tell you, we’ve both promised that it should be as close as possible to the original. No fancy CGI or pre-written scripts here. It’s all about improvising, riffing, and creating things by hand – just like old school craftsmanship. Honestly, it’s been ages since I’ve had this much fun working on a movie!
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is scheduled to debut in theaters on September 6th.
