Natalie Dormer Reflects on Being Captain America's First Kiss

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I must say Natalie Dormer‘s portrayal of Private Lorraine in Captain America: The First Avenger was nothing short of enchanting. It’s been 13 years since that iconic kiss, and yet, it remains etched in the hearts of fans everywhere. When I think about Lorraine, I can’t help but imagine her settling down, becoming a pillar of society, and perhaps even finding a certain super-soldier to share her life with (wink wink, Steve!).

Despite a short-lived tenure within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Natalie Dormer’s portrayal of Private Lorraine in Captain America: The First Avenger left a lasting impression on fans. In the movie, her character’s kiss with Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) was an intriguing scene that hinted at seduction, although interrupted by Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). This scene marked a significant milestone for Captain America as it was his first on-screen kiss. Recently, 13 years after the film’s debut, Dormer is reminiscing about her role. In an interview with ComicBook to promote her new movie, The Wasp, Dormer muses that she believes Lorraine grew up to be “very responsible” and shares that playing the character was enjoyable.

As a fan, I can confidently say that I believe she struck the perfect balance and turned into an incredibly reliable, diligent citizen of our society. That character, let me tell you, was simply delightful. It’s those roles where you just think, “They want me to play what? Oh, absolutely! Alright, I’ll be there for a day’s work. Sure thing!”

Of course, Dormer’s Lorraine isn’t the only memorable kiss Captain America/Steve Rogers had in the MCU. In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve had an unexpected kiss with Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), though that kiss was meant to serve as a distraction while they were trying to evade S.T.R.I.K.E. There was also a notable kiss in Captain America: Civil War when Steve kissed Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). And, of course, Steve does get another kiss in The First Avenger: Peggy kisses him before he takes off to take down Red Skull.

What is The Wasp About?

Regarding Dormer, she is set to appear in the upcoming film titled “The Wasp.” This is a gripping psychological thriller penned by Morgan Lloyd Malcom, based on his play with the same name, and helmed by director Guillem Morales. In this movie, Dormer plays Carla, while Naomie Harris portrays Heather. These two women have been estranged for a long time, but what Heather reveals could impact both their lives significantly.

In his remarks earlier this year (via Deadline), Jordan Fields, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Originals at Shout! Studios, praised the film as fittingly named, with its multiple layers of suspense, biting dialogue, and unexpected twists reminiscent of classic cat-and-mouse thrillers like ‘Sleuth’ and ‘Deathtrap’. He also noted that Natalie Dormer and Naomie Harris deliver a powerful intensity in their roles, while Guillem Morales’ inventive visual style adds to the overall appeal. Fields stated that the film targets intellect, emotions, and instincts effectively and he is excited to share it with audiences because he believes word-of-mouth will be positive.

The Wasp opens in theaters on August 30th.
