As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent on various Call of Duty titles, I must admit, I was both excited and disheartened by the latest news regarding Black Ops 6 and Warzone. The return of Verdansk is a welcome sight for sore eyes, but the omission of Theater Mode on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is a bitter pill to swallow.
This week during the Call of Duty NEXT event, players of Call of Duty got a wealth of information about both Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. For the most part, the information was positive and well-received. In relation to Call of Duty: Warzone, it was announced that Verdansk will return as a map, a location which served as the original battleground for Call of Duty’s battle royale game, and has been eagerly anticipated by players for quite some time now. For those playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on older consoles, Activision clarified that at least one feature seen in previous Call of Duty games will not be available on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
The “theater mode” is a tool designed for recording and watching gameplay clips from Call of Duty matches. However, you won’t find this feature in the upcoming beta. If you’ve played previous Call of Duty games, you might recognize it. It made its debut in the original Call of Duty: Black Ops , and has been a staple in every subsequent Black Ops game, as well as some Modern Warfare titles. So, it’s no surprise that it’s back for Black Ops 6. What might be unexpected is that this feature won’t be available on PS4 and Xbox One platforms.
In one of the Call of Duty blog posts, it was made clear that the Theater Mode will not be available to run on the older gaming consoles regarding Black Ops 6.
Although it won’t be part of the Beta, Activision has announced that at launch, the Multiplayer experience for Black Ops 6 will come with a comprehensive Theater Mode. This mode offers a variety of viewing options, such as playback, pause, slow motion, fast forward, and rewinding your past gameplay sessions, along with the capacity to capture screenshots. However, it’s important to note that Theatre Mode is not compatible with previous-generation consoles, specifically PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Since most games have moved on from previous-generation consoles, it might not come as a shock that at least one aspect won’t be included in the PS4 and Xbox One versions. In fact, what’s really surprising is that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is being released on these consoles at all, considering their current market share. However, given the substantial user base that Call of Duty cannot afford to ignore, some features may have been compromised in the process.
