One Piece will be free to watch on BBC iPlayer – release date confirmed

As a long-time devotee of the anime realm, hailing from the era where VHS tapes were still a thing, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat upon hearing the news about One Piece gracing our shores, courtesy of the BBC. The sheer magnitude of episodes available on iPlayer is nothing short of mind-boggling, and it’s safe to say that the UK anime community will be in for a treat come September 1st.

Exciting update for British anime enthusiasts – It’s confirmed that One Piece will air on BBC, and a preliminary broadcast date has been announced!

Starting September 1st, I’m thrilled to share that over a thousand captivating episodes of the legendary anime, masterfully crafted by Eiichiro Oda, will become accessible for viewing on BBC iPlayer.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that we’re getting all ten arcs between September and December! Kickstarting it, the first three sagas – East Blue, Alabasta, and Skypiea (spanning a whopping 206 episodes) – will be unveiled on September 1st. Can’t wait!

Instead of “The other arcs (Water Seven, Thriller Bark, Summit War, Fishman Island, Dressrosa, Whole Cake Island, Land of Wano) will drop before the end of the year,” you could say “By the end of this year, all remaining arcs (Water Seven, Thriller Bark, Summit War, Fishman Island, Dressrosa, Whole Cake Island, Land of Wano) are expected to be released.” This paraphrase is natural and easy to read while conveying the same meaning. And if 1,085 episodes will be available to watch after these arcs are released, you could say “This means that a total of 1,085 episodes of this series will have been made available for viewing by the end of the year.”

Additionally, it’s worth noting that the BBC is currently the sole platform in the UK offering subtitled versions of One Piece for viewers.

Fiona Campbell, the Head of Youth Viewers for iPlayer and BBC Three, expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming arrival of the One Piece series for British viewers within the next few months.

“One Piece, known for its spellbinding narratives, well-developed characters, and vast international following, has turned into a cultural sensation. We can’t wait to witness the excitement as fans delve into the massive collection of episodes now accessible in English exclusively on iPlayer.”

In Japan, the popular anime series One Piece has aired over 1,100 episodes, leaving UK fans behind as they only get access to the first 1,085 episodes on BBC. However, there might be more releases down the line for us to enjoy!

Since 1999, this anime chronicles the adventures of Luffy, an aspiring explorer, as he sets sail in search of the legendary treasure known as the One Piece, accompanied by his pirate crew, the Straw Hats.

Last year, Netflix released a live-action series with season 2 currently in the works.

One Piece’s first three arcs will be released on BBC iPlayer on 1st September.
