Black Myth: Wukong Guide – All Side Quests and How to Complete Them

As a seasoned adventurer who’s traversed countless realms and faced down beasts of legend, I must say, the side quests in Black Myth: Wukong are nothing short of extraordinary! From the Horse Guai NPC saga to the secret areas hidden within Purple Cloud Mountain, these questlines offer a rich tapestry of challenges that any aspiring hero would relish.

In the game titled Black Myth: Wukong, there’s a wealth of optional content scattered throughout the world that might be easy to miss if you don’t take the time to explore thoroughly. Some content can even slip by unnoticed if you progress through the main story too swiftly, although certain encounters offer a second chance in the same save. Side quests frequently open up hidden areas and their corresponding bosses. This guide compiles all discovered side quests within Black Myth: Wukong.

Chapter 1

3 Bells

Completing this side mission unlocks your first significant secret enemy, but most notably, it rewards you with an essential item called Fire Resistant Cloak. This garment will prove valuable in numerous instances where you need fire protection throughout the game.

1. When the third bell chimes, it transports you to the hidden location of the Ancient Guanyin Temple where you’ll encounter Elder Jinchi. Overcome him and retrieve the Fireproof Mantle by returning to the bell with the dangling corpse. (A more straightforward way of explaining the original text)

Urge Unfulfilled Trophy Quest

For this side mission, it extends across the initial five chapters. Start from the Back Hills in Chapter 1, locate and converse with the NPC named Horse Guai within the cave, continue talking to him until there’s nothing left for him to share.

Chapter 2

Xu Dog

To conquer the frog king, Yaoguai Chief, head towards the Village Entrance shrine, which is called Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw in local language. After defeating him, chat with Xu Dog who hangs out nearby. Be aware that you might miss him if your progress in the main storyline has advanced too much.

If that’s the scenario, you’ll find Xu Dog in the Cellar shrine, hidden within a vase. By talking to him, you’ll gain the ability to utilize Mind Cores for character enhancements and also access his store.

Buddha’s Eyeballs

In this mission, you’ll find an opportunity to battle a key story boss in an epic duel. Start at Squall Hideout and search for six Buddha statues scattered between here and Rockrest Flat. Gather the eyes from each statue. Then, head to Yaoguai King: Stone Vanguard’s arena and insert the collected eyes into a stone with multiple head-carvings. Once done, initiate the story boss fight.

Drunken Boar

In the second chapter, there’s an optional mission that reveals a hidden region called the Kingdom of Sahi. This side quest begins at Rockrest Flat where you’ll encounter a tipsy pig resting on the ground. Speak to him to initiate his quest chain.

Old Rattle-Drum

Near the Windrest Hamlet shrine, confront Tiger’s Acolyte and collect the Old-Rattle Drum key item to begin this questline that eventually leads to the Mad Tiger secret boss fight.

Man-in-Stone

To start a quick sidestory, first, you must vanquish the Mother of Stone, a minor boss. After defeating her, gather the Stone Essence item. Use this item on the Stone Man to instigate a battle that rewards you with the Azure Dust spell.

Urge Unfulfilled Trophy Quest

In Chapter 2, proceed with the Horse Guai quest by locating him in Sandgate Village, as he’s currently being detained there.

Chapter 3

Turtle Tear

As a devoted admirer, I managed to vanquish the formidable Yaoguai Chief near the sanctuary on the Northern Shore of the Bitter Lake. After observing a captivating cinematic, I kept my path the same and reclaimed the Tear of the Giant Turtle from its resting place. The boss mysteriously vanished as I journeyed towards Chapter 4.

Cheng Loong

To overcome the hidden adversary situated near the North Shore of the Bitter Lake’s waters, begin a sequence of events leading to a questline. Interact with him afterwards. It is essential that the location of Xu Dog is reachable for the mission to be accomplished; however, you can still access this area after initiating the quest.

Treasure Hunter

On this intriguing journey, you’ll uncover the enigmatic boss, the Green-Capped Martialist, as well as the Spell Binder spell. Your adventure initiates at the North Shore shrine by the Bitter Lake, where you’ll meet the Treasure Hunter for the first time. After that, there are two additional stages: one at the Towers of Karma and another at Melon Field.

Snow Fox

As a devoted enthusiast, I’d like to share an intriguing side mission that unveils the enigmatic boss, the Non-Void. Approach the cadaver situated near the entrance of the Forest of Felicity shrine. Engage in conversation with it until you’ve exhausted all dialogue options and receive the quest. Overcome this hidden adversary, and upon your triumphant return to the corpse, you’ll be rewarded with the Snow Fox Brush accessory, which extends the duration of your transformations.

The Spirits of Captains

1. Your journey starts with a chat with the inmate close to the Lower Pagoda. Then, you need to overcome three leaders: Captain Lotus-Vision, Captain Wise-Voice, and Captain Kalpa-Wave. After vanquishing them, gather their essences. The Spirit of Captain Void-Illusion can be obtained without a struggle. Finally, return to the inmate and claim your prizes.

Urge Unfulfilled Trophy Quest

In Chapter 3, proceed with the Horse Guai NPC’s quest by approaching him at the entrance of Thunderclap Temple, where he can be found casually relaxing, ready for a conversation.

Chapter 4

Purple Talisman Altars

Gather the four amulets, each colored purple, that are positioned at altars scattered across Webbed Hollow and Temple of Yellow Flowers, to initiate a battle with the Supreme Inspector. Ensure this task is accomplished prior to progressing into Chapter 5; otherwise, the opportunity might be forfeited until New Game+.

Venom Daoist

In this mission, you’ll unveil the hidden region within Chapter 4 known as Purple Cloud Mountain, which conceals not one but two mysterious bosses: The Scorpionlord and The Duskveil. First, vanquish the Venom Daoist, ensconced in his aged cocoon near the Pool of Shattered Jade. After that, repeat the process in the Court of Illumination, engaging in a two-stage battle. Lastly, follow the prompt ‘Go’ indicated by his gesture as he succumbs to defeat.

Daoist Mi

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share a hidden adventure I recently stumbled upon! The Purple Cloud Mountain, tucked away in Chapter 4, hosts this secret side quest. To kick things off, pay a visit to Daoist Mi in Petalfall Hamlet. Completing this encounter starts the entire questline and, if you’re lucky, you’ll be gifted with the enchanting Violet Hail spell!

Urge Unfulfilled Trophy Quest

In Chapter 4, proceed with Guai the Horse’s quest by locating him in Bonevault. He’s ensnared within a spider’s web cocoon, so help release him and engage in another round of conversation with him to explore all he has to say.

Chapter 5

Five Element Carts

From the chilling heights of Ashen Pass, I faced and vanquished the enigmatic Pale-Axe Stalwart. Engaging in a dialogue with him afterwards revealed his hidden quest. By thoroughly exploring his conversation options, I successfully completed the mission which granted me access to the clandestine Bishui Cave, the gateway to Chapter 5’s secret realm.

Supreme Gourd

Completing this side mission grants you access to the Supreme Gourd and the trophy “Always Accompanied”. To unlock it, ensure your Gourd is fully upgraded, have the Shen Monkey, and engage in two conversations with the Old Man.

Urge Unfulfilled Trophy Quest

In Chapter 5, proceed with the Horse Guai NPC’s quest by locating him at the entrance of the Valley, where he’s once more caught in a cart. Grab hold of the reins to try and release him, thus triggering all his dialogues.

At the beginning of Chapter 6, I’ll zip over to that familiar shrine via fast travel, then hop back onto the same old cart. With a firm grip on the whip handle, I’ll give it one last powerful tug to claim the Dark Thunder spell and earn the Urge Unfulfilled trophy.

Those are all known side quests in Black Myth: Wukong.
