Tom Hanks Slams AI-Generated Wonder Drug Ads Featuring His Likeness

Tom Hanks Slams AI-Generated Wonder Drug Ads Featuring His Likeness

As a dedicated fan with a deep appreciation for Tom Hanks‘ illustrious career and commendable humanitarian efforts, I can’t help but be moved by his latest public service announcement. The man who brought us Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and Toy Story, among many other unforgettable characters, is now warning us about the dangers of AI-generated ads peddling false miracle cures. It’s a stark reminder that even in this digital age, we can’t always trust what we see on the internet.

Tom Hanks has a cautionary message for fans.

On August 29th, the individual who won an Oscar posted a public notice on Instagram, warning followers about misleading advertisements featuring artificial intelligence. These ads, he pointed out, wrongly claimed to use his name, image, and voice to endorse miracle treatments and magical medicines.

The individual suffering from type 2 diabetes mentioned that the advertisements promoting treatments were made “without my approval, deceptively, and using AI.” He emphasized that he exclusively collaborates with a “certified medical doctor” in addressing his condition, urging others to be wary of unauthorized products.

“Don’t be fooled,” the 68-year-old wrote. “Don’t be swindled. Don’t lose your hard earned money.”

Back in 2013, the Forrest Gump star opened up about his Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

In a conversation with David Letterman on The Late Show, Hanks shared that he visited the doctor who informed him, “Remember those elevated blood sugar levels you’ve been managing since your 36th birthday? It seems like you’ve completed your coursework,” Hanks said. “Unfortunately, it turns out I have Type 2 diabetes.”

Tom Hanks, who is a father to Colin Hanks (aged 45), Elizabeth Hanks (42), Chet Hanks (34), and Truman Hanks (28) – the first two from his relationship with Samantha Lewes, and the latter two with Rita Wilson – has a history of advocating for various health-related issues.

Indeed, in April, Hanks and Wilson took on the roles of honorary hosts for “An Unforgettable Evening”, an event raising funds for the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. This charity was close to their hearts, as Wilson had undergone a double mastectomy due to breast cancer back in 2015, a battle they had faced together.

Wilson explained to TopMob that backing cancer research requires a collective effort, just as an African proverb says, “It takes a village.” For the past 25 years, our community in Los Angeles, California has been unwavering in its support for this cause. We understand that we can’t achieve this on our own.

Hanks acknowledges his wife, who he first encountered on the set of the sitcom Bosom Buddies prior to their marriage in 1988, for assisting him in managing his time effectively, allowing him to focus his energy on worthwhile causes.

“Every now and then, she makes me take a seat,” he explained, “and we go through our books together. We discuss what needs to be accomplished for the year ahead.”
