Sophie Turner in dramatic first look at Joan, ITVX drama about jewel thief

As a movie buff with a penchant for gritty dramas and strong female leads, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming ITV series, Joan. Having followed Sophie Turner’s career since her days on Game of Thrones, it’s thrilling to see her stepping into such an intriguing role. The teaser trailer alone promises a gripping tale of survival, reinvention, and high-stakes heists, all while maintaining the delicate balance of a devoted mother.

Actress Sophie Turner, famously known from Game of Thrones, takes the spotlight in a thrilling sneak peek for the upcoming ITV series titled Joan.

The TV show explores the challenging situations that drove Joan Hannington, known as “Britain’s most infamous jewel thief,” to a criminal lifestyle in 1980s London, based on her autobiography.

The teaser showcases her knack for impersonation and disguises, which she used to great effect in acquiring her stolen goods, but also places emphasis on her role as “a devoted young mother, desperate to escape a disastrous relationship”.

You can watch the intriguing first look at Joan below:

According to the ITV summary, when Gary, Joan’s partner, decides to flee, she takes advantage of the situation and begins a fresh chapter in her life with her six-year-old daughter, Kelly.

Exploring further into the shady world of crime, Joan encounters Boisie, a mysterious antiques dealer who exerts a powerful charm that leads her into realms of peril and intense emotion.

“Joan navigates an intricate dance of wit, allure, and mimicry in a game of life that’s as thrilling as it is risky. Each daring caper and each precious gem she acquires serves one ultimate goal: to establish a safe and prosperous future for her child.”

Joan is penned by Mrs. Wilson and The Essex Serpent’s author, Anna Symon; meanwhile, Richard Laxton, known for his work on Rain Dogs and The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, will be in charge of the directorial responsibilities.

The upcoming series features an as-yet-undetermined premiere date, and it boasts a talented cast including Frank Dillane (known for Renegade Nell), Kirsty J Curtis (from Harlots), Gershwyn Eustache Jnr (A Spy Among Friends) and Laura Aikman (recognized for Archie).

Joan is coming soon to ITV1 and ITVX.
