Jackpot! Writer Praises John Cena's "Proper Einstein-Style Genius" Intellect

As a lifelong fan who has grown up watching John Cena’s wrestling career blossom into a multi-faceted entertainment juggernaut, I must say I am thoroughly impressed by his latest venture – Big Match John in Jackpot! This action-comedy is a thrilling blend of adrenaline and humor that perfectly showcases Cena’s versatility as an actor.

In his latest acting venture, John Cena takes on the role of Noel in the action-comedy film “Jackpot!” This movie blends the violent thrills of “The Purge” with the chaotic gameplay of “Grand Theft Auto.” In “Jackpot!”, Cena portrays a freelance bodyguard named Noel, who agrees to protect Katie (Awkwafina) and keep her alive long enough for her to claim a colossal cash prize. Since the rules of this dystopian lottery state that the money would go to someone else if she is killed before sunset, Noel’s character plays a crucial role in keeping Katie alive. Off-camera, Cena demonstrated the same kindness and grace as his on-screen character, creating a positive atmosphere on set.

Big Match John’s skillset goes far beyond wrestling and acting.

In conversation with ComicBook, the writer and executive producer of “Jackpot!”, Rob Yescombe, commended John Cena, specifically acknowledging his impressive intellectual prowess as the movie’s main character.

In simpler terms, “Yves said that we often use the term ‘genius’ carelessly. But I truly believe he is a real Einstein-type genius, able to remain calm under pressure and still manage all his work. His athletic abilities also captivate me. He’s known for his kindness due to his involvement with Make-A-Wish, and for his physical prowess through wrestling. However, he’s an extremely intelligent person when he’s not in the spotlight.”

In a casual and understandable manner, we could say: For quite some time, Cena has been an advocate for “micro-learning,” which involves gradually acquiring new abilities during brief intervals of spare time. This approach was evident on the set of Jackpot!, as Yescombe observed Cena learning languages and music between filming breaks under the direction of Paul Feig.

“He was teaching himself Mandarin. He was teaching himself Hindi. He taught himself jazz piano,” Yescombe continued. “I think that’s the thing that I admire about all this level of talent, is the level of dedication they have to excellence outside of what they do professionally.”

Since 2016, John Cena has included Mandarin in his language skills due to his endeavor to extend WWE’s influence in China. He used Mandarin at a WWE press conference held in China that year. Cena attributes his mastery of this skill to resources provided by WWE and moreover, he recently inspired new WWE talent, Logan Paul, to follow suit.

Jackpot! is now streaming on Prime Video. Cena’s WWE farewell tour kicks off in January.
