There are definitely echoes of the comic book’s Homelander-Butcher storyline in the show, like the Oval Office scene and the use of a crowbar. However, the comic reveals Homelander wasn’t the true villain – he was manipulated, and Black Noir was the real antagonist. While fans had mixed reactions, I personally didn’t find that ending satisfying. After following Antony Starr’s performance for so many seasons, it felt anticlimactic to learn his character hadn’t actually committed the actions he believed he had, and that it was all Noir – his clone – instead. That’s why I decided to go in a different direction with the show.
