As someone who’s been gaming since the days of the original Doom, I can confidently say that the Metro series is one of the most immersive and engaging post-apocalyptic FPS experiences out there. The deals currently available on platforms like Fanatical, GOG, and Steam are simply unbeatable – especially for someone like me who’s always on the lookout for a good bargain.
2024 seems to be a quiet year in terms of new first-person shooter (FPS) releases, making it an ideal opportunity to revisit some outstanding FPS games from previous years. Personally, I’d highly recommend the Metro series – a franchise that has been cherished by fans since the debut of Metro 2033 in 2010. Remarkably, you can acquire all three games for less than $10 due to fantastic deals on platforms like Fanatical, GOG, and Steam.
The best Metro deals I’ve ever seen
In the world of First-Person Shooter (FPS) games, post-apocalyptic settings are common, but nothing quite compares to Deep Silver and 4A Games’ Metro series. Initially developed by many of the same creators behind Shadow of Chernobyl from GSC Game World, it shares similarities in its deliberate movement, brutal combat, and strategic ammunition conservation. What sets it apart is its focus on stealth, gathering gas mask filters, and a storyline deeply rooted in Dmitry Glukhovsky’s renowned Metro novels, making it a truly distinctive experience.
In this game, you step into the shoes of Artyom, a young adult residing in the metro tunnels beneath Moscow – one of the few sanctuaries left after a devastating nuclear war broke out in 2013. Over two decades later, his home station faces relentless attacks by enigmatic mutants with extraordinary powers, compelling him to venture towards Polis, a key metro station that serves as the de facto government center. This treacherous journey takes you through various stations and even across areas of the surface devastated by nuclear winter, where dangerous creatures, ruthless bandits, and other hazards lurk.
Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light constitute the initial part of Artyom’s story, including its consequences, and they follow a linear progression. On the other hand, Metro Exodus is set two years later and presents a fresh narrative for Artyom and his companions as they leave the metro and explore post-nuclear Russia’s wilderness. This shift results in a more open game design with multiple open-world areas, although it maintains the carefully designed play spaces found in previous games. All three games offer a baseline challenge and are highly immersive, while higher difficulty settings encourage careful ammunition management, scavenging for resources, and stealth or evasion tactics against enemies.
With these qualities, Metro’s strategic balance and exceptional audiovisual delivery make each of these games a delight to play, with Metro Exodus being my top choice among open-world shooters and one of the best PC games I’ve ever finished. They are well worth purchasing at full price, but when you can get all three for less than what you’d spend on lunch, it’s an obvious decision to buy them.
Is Fanatical legit?
Absolutely, Fanatical is a completely legitimate source for game codes. It often sells PC game codes at prices lower than those found when purchasing directly from platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store, making it an excellent choice for finding bargains on your desired games. In this instance, the savings you’ll make by buying Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light through it might be modest, but this offer still outshines the deals you’d find on Steam. Furthermore, you’ll receive a Steam code for both games upon purchase.
Can I play Metro on Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, and other gaming handhelds?
In simpler terms, the initial Metro games operate smoothly on Steam Deck and other portable gaming devices. However, to keep a steady 60 frames per second (FPS) on Valve’s system, you may need to reduce the graphics settings to Medium. On the other hand, Metro Exodus is more challenging to run, even with Low settings, managing approximately 45-60 FPS consistently. With Medium settings, it targets a stable framerate of 30. More powerful devices such as ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and ROG Ally X allow for higher graphical settings while maintaining around 60 FPS.
