WWE Star Teases Mirroring AEW Storyline on SmackDown

WWE Star Teases Mirroring AEW Storyline on SmackDown

As a seasoned gamer with decades of wrestling lore under my belt, it’s fascinating to see the interwoven tapestry that is modern professional wrestling. It’s like watching a real-life game of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, but with wrestlers and storylines instead!

Professional wrestling rhymes. Over the near century that the scripted sport has existed within pop culture, promotions from across the industry have found themselves mirroring each others’ storylines. Decades after the New World Order ran roughshod on WCW, New Japan Pro Wrestling introduced its own group of black-and-white clad outsiders called Bullet Club. AJ Lee’s romantic interests on WWE TV were once called out by AJ Styles on a TNA iMPACT! broadcast, as he was involved in a similar angle at the time. Speaking of Styles, he channeled his inner Mark Henry with a fake-out retirement on a recent WWE SmackDown in an effort to gain a WWE Championship match.

WWE’s Ludwig Kaiser Teased Mirroring AEW Storyline

The second-in-command of the Ring General is aspiring to create a storyline similar to an AEW scenario, but with a twist – going in the opposite direction instead.

On the recorded airing of WWE SmackDown on Friday, Ludwig Kaiser stepped up to the challenge issued by WWE United States Champion LA Knight. The German crowd erupted in cheers as they welcomed their fellow countryman, with many standing for Kaiser who hails from Schleswig-Holstein. Prior to the match’s start, Kaiser made a statement, claiming to be Germany’s top wrestler. He also declared that if he were to win, he would transform the star-spangled title into the WWE European Championship. Unfortunately, Kaiser was unable to secure the victory.

Kaiser’s desire to swap the WWE United States Title for the WWE European Championship, a title that hasn’t been active since 2002, mirrors a recent AEW plotline. This summer, MJF won the AEW International Championship and rebranded it as the AEW American Title. As he prepares to defend it at AEW ALL IN: London against local hero Will Ospreay, MJF is positioning himself as a villain from a foreign perspective, given the UK crowd’s reaction. In contrast, Kaiser aims to follow a different path, exchanging his US-based title for one associated with his home continent.

As a gamer, I’m pumped! “WWE SmackDown” kicks off tonight at 8 PM ET on FOX. And mark your calendars, the “WWE Bash in Berlin” is happening on Saturday, August 31st, streaming live on Peacock at 1 PM ET. Can’t wait to tune in!
