As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and impatience about Rocksteady Studios’ upcoming project. Nine years is a long wait between games, even for a studio as renowned as Rocksteady. If their next release takes another nine years, I might be in my golden years before we get to play it!
Known for their popular games like ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ and more recently ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’, the creative team at Rocksteady Studios is currently developing a new title. However, we may have to wait a while to learn about this upcoming project. It might feel as though it’s been ages since ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’ hit shelves earlier this year, but let us remind you that nine years separated Rocksteady’s two most recent significant releases – ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ and ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’. To avoid any potential closure of their UK studio, we hope that a similar long gap won’t occur with their next release.
It seems more probable that this project is yet a few years off – possibly three, four, five, or even six years. However, based on Tae Ho Kang’s LinkedIn profile as a Senior Systems Programmer at Rocksteady, it appears that work on the project has commenced, or at least that’s indicated by his involvement in an unannounced project since June 2024, which is presumed to be around the time development or pre-production for the game started.
Currently, this is what we’ve learned about the project so far. Earlier speculation points to Rocksteady Studios returning to their roots by focusing on single-player games, following the less successful experimentation they undertook with the game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, one of the biggest flops of this generation and a title that has significantly increased the expectations for Rocksteady Studios’ next release.
It’s intriguing to note that earlier today, rumors emerged online suggesting the development of a Batman game featuring Robert Pattinson from ‘The Batman’. However, James Gunn, head of DC, has denied these claims.
Currently, neither Rocksteady Studios nor WB Games has responded to these developments. It’s likely that this won’t change, but if it does, we’ll make sure to keep the story updated. In the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts and opinions. What would you like to see Rocksteady work on next?
