Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: Justin Theroux “Obsessed” over Practical Effects on Set

As a long-time fan of Tim Burton’s quirky and imaginative films, I am absolutely thrilled to hear about the upcoming release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” The prospect of revisiting the world of the strange and supernatural, with the return of Michael Keaton as the titular character, is simply too exciting to put into words.

This week, Tim Burton’s film titled “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” made its debut at the Venice Film Festival, and the early feedback for the movie has been favorable. The long-anticipated sequel brings back Michael Keaton as the main character, along with Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. The film also introduces new cast members such as Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, and Danny DeVito. In a recent conversation with ComicBook, Justin Theroux shared that he was captivated by the practical effects used on set during filming.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d say all of them are my picks when it comes to practical effects from the set. Some are just simple pranks, like opening a sweater to have guts spill out, or other fun surprises. However, what really got me hooked and made me geek out was those puppets!

“The scene includes a remarkably expressive and frighteningly awesome puppet, followed by the Bobs – these mind-boggling characters with mobile eyes and expressive features. To add to the chaos, there were numerous more of them scurrying about.”

What Is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice About?

“The Deetz family, comprising three generations, find themselves back at Winter River following a sad family event. Despite the presence of the ghostly character Beetlejuice, whose antics continue to disrupt their lives, Lydia’s daughter Astrid, a rebellious teenager, stumbles upon an old town model in the attic. Inadvertently, she opens a portal to the afterlife, inviting chaos and turmoil into both worlds. As tensions rise in both realms, it’s only a matter of time before someone accidentally summons Beetlejuice again, releasing him to wreak his unique brand of havoc.”

As a die-hard fan, let me tell you that working on “Beetlejuice” is hands down the most exhilarating experience! Michael Keaton once revealed to Empire that it’s an absolute blast, and I couldn’t agree more. It’s just incredible – we’re recreating the magic of the original film, and trust me, there’s a unique touch in the great waiting room for the afterlife where a woman is subtly moving a cat by tugging on its tail with a fishing line. I’m sharing this because I simply adore it!

Keaton remarked, “[Burton] and I discussed it years ago, without ever revealing it to anyone. I said, ‘If this ever materializes, remember, we’ve both stated numerous times that if it happens, it must be done as closely as possible to the way we initially made it. This involves creating things ourselves, improvising, and riffing, but genuinely handmade items like people crafting and constructing something. Incredible! It’s been a long time since I’ve had this much fun working on a film.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is scheduled to debut in theaters on September 6th.
