My Hero Academia's Elizabeth Maxwell Comments on Midnight's "Disappointing" Death (Exclusive)

As a long-time fan of anime and Elizabeth Maxwell‘s remarkable voice acting career, it’s always a treat to see her bring characters like Midnight to life. However, I must admit, the manner in which Midnight’s character was written out in season six left me a tad disappointed.

As a passionate gamer and an ardent fan of anime, I’ve been part of the My Hero Academia universe since its inception, assuming the role of UA Academy instructor Midnight. Alongside contributing to Class 1-A’s world, I’ve also made my mark in other series like Fairy Tale, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, Overlord, and Dragon Ball Super.

In the main story of My Hero Academia, Midnight might not make an appearance before its conclusion, but if the television series adheres to the manga’s plot, fans may still get to see Nemuri Kayama again in the future. For those who are familiar with the spin-off series, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, it is essential to note that Midnight plays a substantial role as a teacher at UA Academy. This side story offers an intriguing look into the lives of Midnight, Eraserhead, Present Mic, and Oboro Shirakumo during their student days at UA, exploring the bond between these three future crime fighters and Oboro.

Elizabeth Maxwell Talks Midnight’s Death

At DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia this year, Maxwell shared her thoughts about Midnight’s final scene with egmr.ru. Despite expressing deep respect for the creators, she admitted being disappointed that we didn’t witness a more impactful conclusion to Midnight’s battle. Given the intense fight scenes between pro-heroes in recent episodes, it felt underwhelming to her that Midnight’s struggle and demise were somewhat hastily depicted. However, she found it emotionally powerful and devastating to embody those final moments as Midnight, a character who felt let down by her own actions before meeting her end.
