Kathryn Hahn Reveals if She Wants Agatha Harkness to Appear in an MCU Crossover

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness made her debut in WandaVision. The witch’s cunning manipulations set Wanda Maximoff on a dark path, causing ripples across the Multiverse. While we’re eagerly awaiting Agatha’s return next month with her own series, Agatha All Along, it seems her future in the larger MCU is still up in the air. But if Hahn has anything to say about it, don’t count on seeing Agatha popping up in the upcoming crossover films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars unless it’s “necessary” and juicy!

In the thrilling premiere of Marvel’s WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn’s character Agatha Harkness stirred things up significantly, setting Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch on a perilous path that had far-reaching consequences across various universes. Although we’ll see more of Agatha next month in her own series, Agatha All Along, the exact role she will play in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe remains uncertain – though Hahn has ideas about what she hopes might transpire next. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hahn isn’t closed to the possibility of Agatha making an appearance in the upcoming ensemble films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, but she believes it would only happen if it was essential for the storyline.

As a fan, I’d put it this way: “I suppose the question would arise if it was vital and intriguing,” Hahn expressed. “So, who can tell? The most fascinating, flawless, secret backdoor to this realm is being a witch. It has a wickedly charming step-sister vibe, which I quite enjoy.”

As a dedicated gamer, I must clarify that you shouldn’t underestimate Agatha. In the same interview, when asked about the challenge of turning a “scene-stealing” secondary character like Agatha into a main protagonist, Hahn made it clear that he doesn’t view Agatha as merely a side character. This is evident in the upcoming series, Agatha All Along.

“I was about to ask, aren’t you treating me like a secondary character? Hahn chuckled. “It’s quite amusing actually! From the start, we’ve been joking that it would drive Agatha Harkness so mad that she wouldn’t even have her own darn show.”

When Did Hahn Learn About Agatha All Along?

It seems Hahn didn’t have to wait much longer for confirmation that Agatha would indeed star in her own series. She shared that she discovered she’d be featuring in a Marvel show during the course of working on “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”.

Jac Schaeffer, the writer for WandaVision and showrunner of Agatha All Along, expressed a desire to work together again by saying, “God, I’d love to write for you again.” At the end of WandaVision, Hahn mentioned that there was unfinished business between us. Whether it meant something in this world or another, our thoughts seemed to overlap. I admired her perspective and her humor, and the character just felt natural for me to play.

She went on saying, “During the summer, while filming Glass Onion, the movie version of Knives Out in Serbia, I received a call from Louis D’Esposito, co-president of Marvel Studios. He asked, ‘Would you be interested in having your own Marvel show?’ – a question rarely posed. My heart raced, I struggled to comprehend his words. I knew the significance, but I kept finding reasons to downplay it until the first day on set. A sign had been placed on my trailer window that read, ‘Welcome to your first day on your very own Marvel show.’ The sight of it made me cry. It was incredibly thrilling, especially for a character I adore and long to delve into every detail.”
