The Front Room: Sam and Max Eggers Talk Growing Up With Robert Eggers

As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless digital realms and horror narratives, I can confidently say that “The Front Room” is shaping up to be a chilling addition to my ever-expanding collection of spine-tingling experiences. The fact that it’s the directorial debut for the Eggers twins, who have roots deeply entwined with the horror genre through their older brother Robert, only adds to the intrigue.

“The Front Room”

As a gamer, let me tell you, this new game feels like an extension of our lifelong collaboration. You see, my sibling and I have been teaming up since day one. Our mom was a theater director who ran a kids’ troupe, while dad taught Shakespeare – and guess who were their constant test subjects? That’s right, us! So, it feels like second nature when we work on creative projects together. And honestly, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have not only one fantastic collaborator but another one too.

We playfully hinted to Eggers that his response was tactful, and assured him we didn’t intend for him to pick sides among his brothers.

“Personally, I think I’m the best brother,” Max joked.

“Sam mentioned that he is slightly older, about half an hour, than the person we’re talking about. He also commented that this individual is always well-behaved in any situation.”

“That makes him the middle child. So, yeah,” Max pointed out.

What Is The Front Room About?

In this movie titled “The Front Room”, newly pregnant Belinda (played by Brandy) faces turmoil when her mother-in-law (portrayed by Kathryn Hunter) moves in. As the troublesome houseguest attempts to seize control of the baby, Belinda must establish boundaries… The cast also includes Andrew Burnap and Neal Huff.

The Eggers brothers also talked to ComicBook about casting Brandy in the role of Belinda.

“It’s quite amusing,” Eggers stated. “We were searching for our wicked stepmother, only to find her, but what we truly needed was a Cinderella. And yes, Brandy is an outstanding actress, reminiscent of a scream queen from films like ‘I Still Know What You Did Last Summer’. However, the role of Cinderella, being theater enthusiasts with numerous experiences in performances of Cinderella, required someone you’d instantly want to cheer for.”

Let me ask you this: As I narrate our story, who does it remind you of? That would be Brandy. You see, she was the one ready to face such difficulties, which were quite demanding. Now, Solange wasn’t exactly in the same situation, but we were looking for someone willing to grow through such trials. And when we finally worked with Brandy, she shone like a beacon of light among us.

Sam also mentioned that she was deeply dedicated to the character she played, “Brandy in Belinda”. It seemed essential to have a reliable anchor like her, given Kathryn and Solange’s unpredictable antics. She appeared in every scene, ready to explore any depth we required of her. An actor couldn’t ask for more dedication than what she showed.

The Front Room hits theaters on September 6th.
