As a long-time fan of The Voice UK, I must say that the 13th season has certainly brought a fresh twist to the show with the addition of three new coaches and the introduction of the shared chair for Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones. Will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones will be joined by LeAnn Rimes, Tom Fletcher, and Danny Jones. Notably, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher are making Voice UK history as part of an important reformatting of the ITV show’s structure.
For the very first time in the UK adaptation, two coaches will need to collaborate and make a single decision during the audition rounds. But exactly how will they manage this process?
Indeed, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones have spilled the beans about their experiences while sitting together as coaches on The Voice UK.
How do Tom and Danny share a seat on The Voice UK?
As a devoted cinephile, allow me to clarify this seemingly complex setup. Instead of the usual single seat on a judge’s chair, we find a spacious extension that accommodates not one, but two individuals.
I found myself utterly captivated as he described a unique, dual swivel chair they’d crafted. What sets it apart is its exhilarating spin motion, unlike traditional single chairs where you’re right in the middle of the rotation. Instead, this one puts you on the edge, much like a rollercoaster or a Waltzer ride, making each twist and turn an invigorating experience.
“We find ourselves in a situation with two chairs and one button. To avoid disrupting the artist or contestant while they sing, we must resort to communicating silently using our thoughts, facial expressions (like eyebrows), and actions. This is how we express whether or not we’re going to press the button.”
Before spinning around, it’s crucial that the duo is in agreement about the action they’re taking. Tom suggested that they should rely on their “instinct” instead, since the coaches don’t have much time to decide on a performer.
As a fellow movie buff and music connoisseur, I can’t help but trust my intuition when it comes to collaborating with Danny. Our mutual love for music is like a common language between us, making our partnership seamless.
He continued: “You kind of trust your partner, and if there’s someone that they really want to go for, you go for it, and vice versa. It was an interesting process figuring that out.
However, it’s undeniable that some individuals possess such extraordinary talent that our admiration and appreciation for them is immediate. Those who resonate with this talent particularly stand out.
Has there been a shared chair on The Voice before?
Indeed, they are right, but it’s important to clarify that such notable co-hosting roles haven’t occurred on the UK version of the series. In other countries, like Australia, Good Charlotte stars Joel and Benji Madden have taken on the role, and more recently, pop duo Dan + Shay joined the US show.
Similar to the UK show, the duos sat on a connected pair of chairs and needed to collectively decide if they would rotate their chairs for the performance or not.
