As a dedicated follower of Johnny Gaudreau’s life and career, I am deeply saddened by this heartbreaking news. The loss of such a talented athlete and loving family man has left an unfillable void not only in the hockey world but also in the lives of his loved ones.
In a heartfelt statement, Johnny Gaudreau’s spouse, Meredith Gaudreau, is expressing her feelings following the devastating event that has affected her husband.
2 days following the tragic accident where Columbus Blue Jackets left winger, Matthew Gaudreau, and his brother were hit by a car while cycling in Oldmans Township, N.J., the athlete’s spouse paid tribute to him publicly.
Meredith posted on Instagram, “Thank you for the most wonderful years of my life,” on August 31st. “Even though you’re gone, I feel blessed to have been your partner. I adore you immensely. You were absolutely flawless. Some days it seemed too good to be real. I cherish everything about you. You are my eternal love, and I eagerly look forward to being reunited with you again. I love you infinitely, forever and always.”
In her heartfelt message, Meredith shared a collection of pictures spanning their years together, along with snapshots of them, their daughter Noa Harper Gaudreau (aged 23 months), and their son Johnny Edward Gaudreau (6-month-old), during the hockey player’s 31st birthday party.
“In another post, Johnny’s wife expressed that he is the world’s greatest dad. She admires his kindness and affection, making him an exceptional partner during parenthood. Not a single appointment was missed by John, and he excelled at getting the baby to sleep. He is also Noa’s apple of the eye. I am touched by how much she resembles him. We are striving to make you proud. Our love for you is boundless, daddy.”
Matthew leaves behind his expectant wife, Madeline Gaudreau, who is carrying their first child together. A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Madeline and their upcoming son, Tripp, during this time.
Johnny and Matthew, 29, were biking on a rural road on the evening of Aug. 29 when driver Sean M. Higgins, 43, collided with them from the rear while attempting to pass another SUV traveling northbound, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron had told TopMob News in a statement.
He added that “Higgins was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol,” and has been charged with “two counts of death by auto.” Higgins is currently being held at Salem County Correctional Facility and the crash continues to be investigated. TopMob News has reached out to his attorney but has not yet heard back.
