As a seasoned wrestling enthusiast with over three decades of fandom under my belt, I can confidently say that this week’s battle royale between AEW and WWE is shaping up to be a spectacle for the ages! The nostalgia-inducing echoes of Chicago’s arenas reverberating with the clash of titans will undoubtedly transport me back to the days when I’d rush home from school to catch Monday Night Raw.
This week, AEW will face off against WWE once more. When AEW was established in 2019 and secured its initial television contract, it often outperformed WWE’s NXT program in ratings. However, as NXT shifted to Tuesday nights and maintained its position there, the popularity between the two evened out. While specific circumstances sometimes lead AEW and WWE to square off on TV, these instances rarely involve WWE’s main roster. Last November marked the first time AEW went head-to-head with WWE SmackDown. They will do so again this Friday evening, during the final broadcast of SmackDown on FOX.
This weekend, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is returning to Chicago, Illinois for AEW All Out – their annual pay-per-view event that attracts fans from across the U.S., having established itself as one of the company’s premier shows. Since AEW All Out is happening on Saturday night, AEW Collision will now air on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET instead, with TNT being its broadcast network. AEW Rampage will then start as usual at 10 p.m. ET. Notably, WWE has traditionally held the Friday prime-time wrestling slot, and there are already some thrilling announcements in store for AEW Collision.
Following the aftermath of “Bash in Berlin,” Giovanni Vinci, previously known as Imperium’s third member, is preparing for a comeback with an updated persona. Meanwhile, Jacob Fatu is gearing up for his ring return following several weeks away, joining forces with Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa to face off against DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) and The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins). At this point, the only confirmed match for the “All Out” warm-up show at the NOW Arena is MxM Collection (Mason Madden & Mansoor) battling House of Black (Brody King & Buddy Matthews) in a Fashion Fight.
What Is on the AEW All Out Card?
This year’s AEW All Out event is packed with significant title bouts, including the initial title defense for the newly crowned AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson. Having recently triumphed over Swerve Strickland two weeks ago, he will face off against the TNT Champion Jack Perry, who has garnered considerable animosity among Chicago locals.
Furthermore, Mercedes Mon? is defending her TBS championship against Hikaru Shida in a highly anticipated rematch, with fans hoping it erases any lingering effects from her match with Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. Meanwhile, even after losing the title, Swerve and “Hangman” Adam Page are gearing up for their next chapter, set to battle inside a steel cage where no interference will be allowed.
