As someone who’s spent countless hours navigating the virtual world, I must say that this upcoming gaming season is shaping up to be quite the spectacle! From the electrifying pace of EA Sports FC 25’s Rush mode, to the chaotic return of Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, there’s something for every gaming enthusiast.
Though August felt somewhat quiet, September is finally here, bringing a surprisingly extensive line-up of new releases. Between the expansions, sports titles, early access releases, and exclusives, there’s a lot to look forward to, regardless of your platform. Check out 15 big new titles launching in September 2024.
The Casting of Frank Stone
By this point, everyone should be familiar with Supermassive Games’ style of narrative adventure that combines choice, consequence, character development, and horror. However, The Casting of Frank Stone takes it a step further by integrating elements from Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight. Expect skill checks to intersect with critical decisions that could mean life or death. It seems the Entity is somehow connected as well. The game will be released on September 3rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
NBA 2K25
The popular NBA 2K series from Visual Concepts returns once again, as it typically does around this season. Scheduled for release on September 6th across platforms such as Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch, the new edition boasts approximately 9,000 new animations, Rhythm Shooting, Signature Shots, and a learning mode called Learn 2K to help players master NBA 2K25. What’s more exciting is that this will be the first time the PC version matches up with current-gen releases in terms of features (crossplay, however, remains unavailable).
Towerborne (Early Access)
Stoic Studio’s highly anticipated title, Towerborne, a blend of side-scrolling brawler combat with live service elements, starts its early access phase on PC from September 10th. Unfortunately, this means Xbox Series X/S gamers will have to wait, but the combat has shown promise, with each class displaying a distinct style. Early access not only provides a narrative but also “hundreds” of Exploration missions and 13 Expedition missions (which include multiple boss fights), along with Aspects, and four Difficulty Levels, offering approximately 30 to 60 hours of gameplay.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
After years and years, Nintendo finally delivered a new title in The Legend of Zelda series not focused on Link. Well, not in the way that we’re used to. With a strange corruption taking over Hyrule and Link out of commission, it’s Zelda’s turn to protect the kingdom. Featuring a top-down perspective, the art style from the Link’s Awakening remake, and the ability to duplicate almost everything, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom looks like a delightful action-adventure. It’s out on September 26th for the Nintendo Switch.
Throne and Liberty
Originally unveiled as part of NCSoft’s Lineage series, “Throne and Liberty” was released for PC in South Korea last year. Now, it’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC in North America, Japan, and Europe on September 17th. This title offers crossplay functionality and promises a massive medieval fantasy battleground with day/night cycles, multiple weapon types, and the ability to transform into different shapes. With new MMOs not always being commonplace, this one could be worth the anticipation.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster
Contrary to its title, the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster leans more towards a remake. It boasts improved visuals thanks to RE Engine, a contemporary control system, fully-voiced characters, and the familiar zombie-killing action from the original game. Additionally, it offers numerous user-friendly enhancements such as time-skipping, new photography options, autosaves, and other features. The Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is set to release on September 19th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Frostpunk 2
11 Bit Studios’ highly anticipated game, “Frostpunk 2,” will be releasing for PC on September 20th following a delay. The game promises an expanded scope with new factions, law proposals, and their consequences, which remain as intriguing as ever. Various updates and enhancements have been implemented, including a streamlined user interface, more straightforward skills to utilize, and Zoom Stories that concentrate on individual citizens. Additionally, modding support is available from launch, hinting at the possibility of T-Rexes roaming in the frostlands.
UFL
If the most recent Electronic Arts football game isn’t satisfying your gaming needs, perhaps you’d prefer to give UFL a try. Created by Strikerz Inc., this free-to-play game debuts on September 12th and utilizes Unreal Engine. It offers fast-paced matches such as 2v2 and 3v3, an immersive online experience through an online football league, and a roster of approximately 5,000 real-life players, including Cristiano Ronaldo. While it remains to be seen if UFL will dethrone EA Sports’ dominance, it could serve as an appealing alternative for football game enthusiasts.
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
Recently, the racing genre has been lacking in fresh content, but that might change with KT Racing’s Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. This game offers a true-to-scale representation of Hong Kong Island, filled with various districts to discover. You can also choose to align with one of two factions, enjoy an improved ranked system, and experience a live service approach. With so many promising features, it’s exciting to see what awaits us. However, the question remains whether all these elements will come together to create an enjoyable game, especially given the delays. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is set to release on September 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5.
Astro Bot
Astro’s cherished comeback brings a larger, more detailed journey on September 6th! With over 50 planets to traverse, more than 15 new skills, and approximately 300 Bots to save – featuring appearances from Horizon, Bloodborne, and Jak and Daxter – there’s plenty of excitement ahead. Whether you enjoy the intricate platforming and exploration or are a collector aiming to grab every Bot, Astro Bot seems like it will be enjoyable for everyone.
EA Sports FC 25
Regardless of your feelings or attempts to avoid it, the latest football title from EA Sports is set to debut. This year’s version offers novel aspects such as Player Roles, different Goalkeeper Playstyles, and FC IQ for enhanced team AI performance. The exciting new feature that has everyone talking is the Rush mode, a 5v5 competitive setting designed for quicker, more thrilling matches. EA Sports FC 25 will be available on September 27th across Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns
Back in the day, Liu Kang didn’t encounter fighters who battled using their limbs, right? That’s because Khaos Reigns, an expansion of the original Mortal Kombat 1, introduces a new narrative featuring Havik as the villain. Additionally, it includes Kombat Pack 2 with characters such as Sektor, Cyrax, Noob Saibot, the Terminator’s T-1000 model, and Conan the Barbarian. Set to release on September 24th, Khaos Reigns will be accessible on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
The Plucky Squire
Unique among indie platformers, The Plucky Squire from All Possible Futures catches the eye. It could be the stunning visual aesthetic or the smooth shift between 2D and 3D gameplay that sets it apart. Mixing genres like role-playing games, side-scrolling shoot ’em ups, and more into a captivating blend is certainly intriguing. Regardless of the reason, mark your calendars as it releases on September 17th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC – we’re eagerly anticipating it!
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
13 years after the initial release, we now have Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. This sequel brings hordes of Tyranids to battle across a 12-hour campaign, along with an abundance of weapons and breathtaking action scenes. The good news for newcomers is that they can dive right in without any barriers. Additionally, there’s a separate Operations mode offering co-op play and PvP, multiple character classes, and extensive customization options to keep players engaged. Space Marine 2 is set to launch on September 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Starfield: Shattered Space
As a gamer, I can’t wait to dive into the thrilling world of Shattered Space! The cosmos is in turmoil as terrifying entities roam free and factions clash. Equipped with fresh space suits, gear, and exclusive weapons, I’ll embark on new quests and confront horrifying elements that could breathe new life into the space RPG genre when it releases on September 30th.
