Marvel Rivals – About 75% of Roster is “Greatest Hits” Marvel Characters, Developer Says

As a lifelong Marvel enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of these iconic characters, I can confidently say that Marvel Rivals is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the hero shooter genre. The fact that it’s delving deep into Marvel’s rich history and bringing both the “greatest hits” and lesser-known characters to life is nothing short of exhilarating.

In a challenging gaming genre, Marvel Rivals stands out with a unique edge: it can delve deeply into the extensive Marvel Universe and offer a multitude of heroes for players to control. With many of these characters being fan favorites throughout Marvel’s history, the game promises a rich and diverse roster.

In an interview with MP1st, the executive producer Danny Koo shared that approximately 70-75% of the characters featured in “Marvel Rivals” are popular Marvel heroes, such as Iron Man, Venom, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, and more. This suggests that around a quarter of the game’s roster will allow players to experience less well-known Marvel characters, like Jeff the Land Shark.

According to Koo, regarding the development of the new hero shooter, the team delved extensively into the rich tapestry of Marvel history and added some unexpected elements to reintroduce lesser-known or ancient characters prominently.

As a multiplayer shooter, it’s likely that this game will continue to evolve and expand following its release (assuming all goes well). It will certainly be intriguing to observe which lesser-known Marvel characters developer NetEase Games might decide to incorporate into the team, should they choose to do so.

Marvel Rivals is scheduled to release on December 6 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. At present, there are no talks about possible Switch or mobile versions.
