As a long-time fan of The Grand Tour and someone who’s followed the adventures of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May since their Top Gear days, I must admit that this news has left me with a mix of emotions. On one hand, it’s bittersweet to see them embarking on their final journey together, but on the other, I’m excited about what the future holds for The Grand Tour.
For eight years, The Grand Tour has been running, and now its creators – Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May – are preparing for a farewell adventure. Their journey takes them across the beautiful landscapes of Zimbabwe in what will be their final outing together.
At the heartwarming end, the threesome embarked on an exquisite journey in their cherished dream cars – a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-liter, and a Triumph Stag. This was a breathtaking road adventure through captivating and at times demanding terrains.
In this last installment, Clarkson acknowledges his advanced age and concludes that now is the perfect moment to bring this series to a close.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I must confess, it’s a thrill of youth that this new episode embodies. The reality, though, is stark: we’ve traversed every corner of the globe, pushed cars to their limits, and explored uncharted territories. But now, when we ponder where to go next, there’s an underlying melancholy – we’ve been everywhere, done everything. The world has become smaller, and that’s the unfortunate truth.
“A while back, we traveled by car from Iraq through eastern Turkey, into Syria (specifically Damascus), and then to Israel. We also went from Crimea to Ukraine. However, such trips are no longer possible today.”
“Indonesia and its vicinity have fertile soil, yet it’s not easily accessible. As for North Africa, except for Morocco, the entire region is off-limits.”
Although they successfully visited Mauritania for The Sand Job earlier this year, Clarkson revealed that they were advised by the Foreign Office not to make the trip.
In this installment, the emotional impact is palpable as it signifies the concluding chapter of their joint journeys. Notably, Hammond has shared his feelings about longing for their camaraderie.
“He admitted frankly that there might be some teasing ahead, but he’d deeply mourn their absence because they’ve been partners for two decades. They pushed each other to work hard and kept things lively, not letting idleness take over.”
Although the trio, Clarkson, Hammond, and May, will no longer embark on their road trips, viewers should not despair as The Grand Tour is not concluding entirely.
As reported by Metro.co.uk, Hammond has shared that the show will move forward with a fresh group of creators and presenters taking over.
“He stated that it would persist, referring to The Grand Tour. Although we’ll no longer be the hosts, Prime will take over. I’m thrilled to find a new seat and enjoy watching someone else take charge. Simply fantastic!”
Although the identities of the new cast members for the series remain unclear, Hammond made sure to mention that the boys are always welcome to engage in conversation with them if they so choose.
He concluded: “But it’s not for us to shape anymore. We’re stepping away.”
