Deadpool & Wolverine: Lady Deadpool Concept Art Reveals Changes to Blake Lively's Marvel Hero

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with a soft spot for Deadpool and Wolverine, I must say that the latest concept art for Lady Deadpool from Jonay Bacallado has left me utterly thrilled! The evolution of this character’s design is a testament to the creative process behind bringing these beloved characters to life on screen.

Much like several other colleagues, costume designer Jonay Bacallado has been quite active in displaying his latest creations related to Deadpool and Wolverine on various social platforms. His most recent unveiling is the concept artwork for Lady Deadpool, often referred to as Ladypool, who was portrayed by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds’ real-life spouse, in the movie. Originally, the design of Ladypool mirrored the typical 1990s comic book aesthetic, featuring straps, seams, pouches, and an abundance of intricate details. However, the on-screen version underwent significant simplification, resulting in a sleeker appearance with a more streamlined silhouette, as can be seen when she dramatically emerges from a cloud of smoke leading a troop of Deadpools.

Here are some images you can view, which were posted on Bacallado’s Instagram account. Additionally, there’s a snapshot of the “finished” design for reference as well.

Bacallado shared his final costume concept for Ladypool, designed under Mayes Rubeo in “Deadpool & Wolverine”. He found it a delight to work on Deadpool variant costumes within the team, as both fans and artists enjoyed it. It was a chance to have fun, experiment, and let loose. One of his favorites that made it into the movie is Ladypool. We aimed to honor her comic book representations, but also added our usual touch of realism by analyzing every detail of her suit meticulously. Since her proportions differ significantly from the popular male character, we chose to accentuate her curves and create a more sinuous design for her new look.

Speaking as an ardent admirer, I must say that the refined final design was nothing short of spectacular. It reached new heights of beauty, and this was largely due to the exceptional performance of Blake Lively. She breathed life into her character, offering us one of the most unforgettable scenes from the movie.

In the Marvel Studios movie titled “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman, will rewrite the storyline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. This film also features Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, and a return of several “Deadpool” cast members including Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapi?i?, Brianna Hildebrand, Rob Delaney, and Lewis Tan. Joining the cast from the X-Men film series is Aaron Stanford as Pyro, while rumors suggest Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra Natchios.

The film Deadpool & Wolverine, which was produced by Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner, with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers, was written by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. This action-packed movie premiered exclusively in theaters on July 26th.
