Hunter x Hunter Creator Posts Alarming Health Update Ahead of the Series' Return

As a seasoned gamer and an ardent follower of manga, I’ve been around the block a few times, and let me tell you, the saga of Yoshihiro Togashi and his beloved creation, Hunter x Hunter, is one for the books. This manga has been a constant companion since the late ’90s, standing tall as a testament to the golden age of Shonen Jump.

Hunter x Hunter, initially published in 1998, stands as one of Shonen Jump’s enduring legacies from its golden era. Mastermind Yoshihiro Togashi has breathed life into this manga for many years, even amidst his health concerns. Remarkably, the author continues to persevere in bringing Gon’s story back from hiatus this fall. Lately, his health reports have sparked fervent pleas from fans asking Togashi to prioritize his own well-being above all else.

This week, it was revealed on social media that Togashi has resumed working on the manga “Hunter x Hunter.” The manga is scheduled to return in October, which means work on it is picking up pace. Unfortunately, the coloring aspect of his work seems to have aggravated a pre-existing back condition, causing him significant discomfort for the past week.

Over the weekend, things appeared to be improving for Togashi as he shared an optimistic health update on social media. The artist behind “Hunter x Hunter” posted over the weekend saying, “I received treatment and am feeling significantly better now.” It turned out that his back pain was due to the posture he used while coloring. Only after someone pointed it out did he notice that this posture was subtly different from the one he used when inking his manuscript.

Regrettably, Togashi’s treatment didn’t endure as long as he had anticipated. In a recent social media post, the artist expressed that his spine feels similar to a precarious Jenga tower these days. Essentially, he said, “I started coloring work again, even though my backbone feels delicate and on the verge of collapsing like a Jenga tower in its final stages. Check back tomorrow to see if I manage to complete the coloring before my spine gives way.”

Will Hunter x Hunter Delay Its Manga Comeback?

It’s clear that Togashi’s health issues have been intensifying, and he’s been honest about the agony his body experiences during these periods. Previously, he’s confessed that even something as basic as using the bathroom becomes challenging when his back pain escalates to a certain level. The only respite he finds is through cautious physical therapy and rest. Given that Hunter x Hunter is set to resume in October, it seems unlikely Togashi will have much time for rest. If delaying the comeback is necessary to prioritize his health, then so be it. Above all else, Togashi’s wellbeing matters most, so if you need a break, sensei, please take one!

If you haven’t been following Hunter x Hunter before its return, don’t worry – the manga is readily accessible. This popular series can be found on the Shonen Jump app. For a better understanding of Yoshihiro Togashi’s lengthy manga, you can check out the synopsis of Hunter x Hunter below:
