Slow Horses cast talk season 5 and beyond: “It’s a very thin tightrope”

As a long-time aficionado of gripping spy thrillers and captivating narratives, I eagerly await the fourth season of Slow Horses on Apple TV+. Having immersed myself in the intricate web of characters and plots over the past seasons, I can confidently say that this show is a gem in the genre.

Even though the fourth season of “Slow Horses” on Apple TV+ hasn’t been broadcasted yet, fans are eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for this popular spy thriller in the future.

Since a fifth season of the show has already been produced and there’s a wealth of content from Mick Herron’s books to explore, it’s only natural for viewers to wonder if all those stories might be brought to life on screen someday.

Currently, three main cast members who joined the series from its debut – Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish, and Christopher Chung portraying Roddy Ho – have shared their thoughts during a special screening of the fourth season’s premiperformed by TopMob in partnership with the BFI.

Inquired if he hoped for additional seasons past the fifth installment, Lowden hesitated but expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Well, as a fan, yes, because it’s simply delightful to behold.”

“He made a jest, saying there are plenty of our supervisors here tonight. And just when you thought they’d run out of fresh ideas for Season 5, they surprise us yet again by discovering new settings and storylines!”

As someone who values the connection with these characters and their world, I find myself grappling with a particular dilemma: maintaining proximity without straying too far. I’m keenly aware of the risk of producing an album that misses the mark, perhaps resembling a “fifth s**t” release, which might disappoint fans who cherish this universe for its authenticity and appeal. My goal is to preserve the essence that makes it special, avoiding any changes that could potentially diminish the reasons we all appreciate it.

“In essence, it’s quite a delicate balance for those creating it, as we find with season 5 being enjoyable and entertaining.”

Reeves noted: “Additionally, we can introduce fresh characters, which means new performers and diverse talents. There’s a great deal to anticipate.”

Chung noted that each new character in each season subtly alters the dynamics and raises fresh questions for every character when they engage with a new cast member.

What’s intriguing about anticipating what lies ahead is that new questions will constantly arise as new people enter the scene, prompting us to keep asking them.

Apart from Lowden, Reeves, and Chung, there’s also buzz about the show’s future coming from other quarters. The showrunner, Will Smith, hinted earlier that the series might last up to nine seasons to adapt all of Herron’s books. Additionally, Tom Brooke, who portrays the latest addition to Slough House, JK Coe, has expressed interest in a potential spin-off focusing on his character’s past.
