Agatha All Along Creator Talks Using a Big Wanda Comic Storyline For Agatha

As a seasoned gamer who’s dabbled in both comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe, I must say, I’m intrigued by the upcoming series, “Agatha All Along.” The Witches’ Road has always been a captivating concept, first introduced in Scarlet Witch (Vol. 2) #3 back in 2016. Seeing it materialize in the MCU is an exciting prospect, despite the apparent departure from Wanda Maximoff’s storyline.

In a few weeks, the series “Agatha All Along” will premiere, and based on the trailers, fans anticipate that Agatha Harkness (played by Kathryn Hahn) is embarking on an adventure along The Witches’ Road. This intriguing setting was initially presented in James Robinson’s “Scarlet Witch (Vol. 2) #3” from 2016, and it played a significant role in the comic book storyline of Wanda Maximoff. In the comics, this road is a path only accessible to sorcerers, and Wanda journeys down it accompanied by Agatha, who has become a ghost. However, fans can expect that The Witches’ Road’s appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will likely differ significantly. For instance, there’s been no hint that Elizabeth Olsen will appear as the Scarlet Witch in the series. Additionally, we left Agatha very much alive at the end of “WandaVision” in Westview. We had a conversation with the creator of “Agatha All Along,” Jac Schaeffer, and asked about their decision to adapt such a major Wanda storyline for Agatha.

Absolutely, you’ve got it right! Schaeffer clarified that the story they’re telling is set within the “WandaVision” universe. They’re playing in a specific corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, this narrative is primarily centered around Agatha, as she herself would prefer it. In fact, Agatha is the main character and the focus of the story. The beginning of this series is all about unraveling who Agatha truly is, as she remains a mystery even to herself. And indeed, Schaeffer enjoys creating intricate puzzle-like stories, especially when it comes to Agatha. So yes, everything you see unfolding revolves around her.

In the year 2022, ComicBook conducted an interview with Elizabeth Olsen regarding “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and she expressed her hope that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might incorporate The Witches’ Road in future productions.

“Elizabeth Olsen shared that she often finds fans come up with the most creative ideas for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She admitted that she’s unsure about where the storylines the future of the MCUponds not privy and what the MCUponderives us uncertain as they have no longer knows little about what the boundaries are for the MCU, since she isn’t aware of their plans.

Prior to the launch of “Agatha All Along,” we reminisced about our past interview with Olson and inquired whether Hahn had discussed the specifics of the spinoff with her.

Over the D23 weekend, Hahn admitted that he had texted her the day before, expressing his feelings by saying “I can’t stop thinking about you. I love you.” He sent this message because she made such a positive impression and was so welcoming to the world. It was quite endearing, given the occasion. However, he is unsure if she is aware of it, or what exactly she knows regarding the show.

According to Hahn, it seems they were sharing photos with her while the filming was taking place, between Mary Livanos and Jac Schaeffer.

Agatha All Along debuts on the 19th of September. Keep an eye out for further insights from our Agatha All Along interviews.
