Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series vs. Intel Core Ultra Series 2
Although we can’t predict the specific details of Qualcomm’s presentation, it’s likely that they will focus on expanding their top-tier Snapdragon X Series. The intrigue lies in whether the new products they unveil will rival the Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors or take a different approach altogether.
Following numerous years of eager wait, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus earlier this year. While AI was a significant topic surrounding these processors, it wasn’t the primary impression for most users. Instead, the performance and battery life of the Snapdragon X Elite, along with its less potent counterpart, were key factors that led PCs using these chips to receive high ratings.
In his review of the ASUS VivoBook S 15, our Senior Editor Zac Bowden stated that the Snapdragon X Elite indeed meets the high expectations. To put it simply, this chip is nothing short of amazing, delivering outstanding performance that’s noticeable in almost every task. From browsing multiple tabs on the web, managing numerous open apps, rendering videos and audio, hosting a podcast, to even some gaming, the Snapdragon X Elite is more than capable.
Besides the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x (Gen 9) and HP EliteBook Ultra G1q, other devices also contributed to leaving a positive impact on Qualcomm’s latest processors.
In a surprising turn of events, it seems that Qualcomm had initially taken the lead over Intel in crucial aspects concerning battery life and efficiency. However, Intel asserts that its latest Core Ultra Series 2 processors offer longer battery life compared to equivalent Qualcomm chips, even when both are tested in devices manufactured by the same Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and within identical chassis.
Intel’s latest processors boast capabilities of up to 48 Tera Operations per Second (TOPS), slated to transform into Copilot+ PCs by the end of this year. If artificial intelligence influences consumer purchasing decisions, these performance specs could be crucial considerations when selecting a computer.
As an eager tech enthusiast, I can’t help but feel the anticipation building up. Will Qualcomm’s broadening of the Snapdragon X series stand toe-to-toe with Intel’s fresh offerings in terms of power and efficiency? Or will Qualcomm carve out a unique niche for itself instead? The answers to these questions are just around the corner, and I can hardly wait to catch the live stream at IFA 2024.
