The signs of potential trouble have been mounting, from their geographical separation to the absence of public displays of affection on special occasions.
Ben Affleck’s cousin is attempting to fill some big shoes.
Indeed, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jennifer Affleck recently paid homage to her cousin’s ex Jennifer Lopez in a social media video.
In early September, I had the pleasure of paying a visit to my costar Jessi Ngatikaura’s salon for a hair extension makeover. While the transformation was underway, I couldn’t resist the rhythm and catchy tune of “Jenny From the Block,” which I lip-synced along to, capturing the moment on TikTok.
Additionally, the 25-year-old playfully writes in her caption, paired with a wink emoticon, “I’m the fresh Jenny from the city.”
Indeed, Jennifer got the attention of a specific Affleck in 2019. That was when she married Ben and Zac Affleck, who is the son of their first cousin Dave Affleck. Zac happens to be Casey Affleck’s second cousin.
Jennifer had playfully mentioned her distant relatives before. In a video she posted shortly after Ben (who shares Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12 with ex Jennifer Garner) married J.Lo in 2022, she humorously stated, “It’s also worth noting that Ben Affleck is my husband’s second cousin.”
Additionally, the TV personality playfully teased sharing a name with Jennifer Lopez (J.Lo) following her marriage to the star from Armageddon.
“At that point, she had believed she would be the next Jennifer Lopez. However, it turned out that her name was taken away from her instead.”
Instead of being referred to as Jennifer Lynn Affleck, J.Lo has officially asked to go back to using her birth name, Jennifer Lynn Lopez, as stated in the divorce documents she filed on August 20th.
But while the Maid in Manhattan star—who shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex Marc Anthony—has cut ties with the Affleck name, she remains unbothered.
Indeed, she has shared some recent news about herself through social media. On September 1st, her Instagram post read, “It truly was a summer.”
The “Let’s Get Loud” singer demonstrated that she’s thriving following her split with Ben, as evidenced by a picture where she wore a T-shirt proclaiming, “She’s blossoming and unfazed, beyond grasp and tranquil.”

It sparked speculation among fans if there might be some tension between Jennifer and Ben, as he was absent from her side at the 2024 Met Gala, themed “The Garden of Time,” where she served as co-chair on May 6. The reason for his absence remains unclear as he had participated in a roast for Netflix the day prior. However, it was reported that Ben’s representatives stated he was busy filming “Accountant 2” in Los Angeles instead.
Despite Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez choosing to stay silent about breakup rumors, the whispers on social media grew louder as fans took notice of J.Lo liking an Instagram post discussing signs of a troubled relationship several months prior. The caption of the March 19 post read: “It’s impossible to build a relationship with someone who lacks self-awareness. We can’t anticipate that they will see us when they can’t even recognize themselves. Getting into a relationship is simple, but maintaining and growing it requires effort. After all, love is not just a feeling, it’s about taking action.”
Prior to the signs of a potential separation became evident, Ben openly discussed his and Jennifer’s contrasting views on privacy. In an interview for the documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” released in February, he stated, “I was very protective about my boundaries with the press from the beginning, while I don’t think Jen had that same level of objection as I did.” He further explained that the intense scrutiny they faced served as a catalyst for their split in the early 2000s.
Later in May, reports spread that Jennifer and Ben were living apart.
As the month moved along, she persisted in making solo red carpet appearances – gracing both the L.A. premiere and Mexico City fan event for her film “Atlas” alone. Yet, even without him by her side, Jennifer adorned her ensembles with her wedding ring.
At a press conference in Mexico, someone from the audience inquired about the breakup speculations. However, a video posted by El Gordo y la Flaca shows the actress denying the rumors casually, saying “You already know more than that.”
In late May, it was made public by Live Nation representatives that Jennifer’s U.S. Summer 2024 Tour “This Is Me…Live” has been postponed. The reason given in her On the J.Lo newsletter was that Jennifer needs to spend time with her children, family, and close friends.
Shortly after, the singer rejoiced over the success of her movie “Atlas” and also shared a veiled comment about the prevalence of negativity. In a June edition of her On the JLo newsletter, she wrote: “ATLAS has taken the top spot globally once more this week!! I can’t thank you all enough!!! It might appear that there is an abundance of negativity in the world currently…but let us not allow the voices of a few to overshadow the immense love that exists out there.”
In that very same month, TMZ disclosed that the actors secretly put up for sale the luxurious Beverly Hills residence they had bought a year prior. Come July, they made the decision to openly market the property for a whopping $68 million.
Although people might have assumed that Bennifer’s relationship would continue smoothly based on their attendance at family gatherings and Jennifer’s heartfelt Father’s Day tribute, the rumors of a split resurfaced when Jennifer went to Italy in June while Ben remained in Los Angeles, where he was seen without his wedding ring.
On the Fourth of July, the actress who played “Maid in Manhattan” made her way to the Hamptons, located in New York. She shared a picture with one of her twin daughters, Emme, but Ben wasn’t visible in the snapshot.
In July, it was exactly two years since the stars of “Gigli” tied the knot in Las Vegas. Last year, Jennifer posted something to commemorate the occasion, but there wasn’t a similar celebration this time.
On July 24, the singer known for “Waiting For Tonight” held a Bridgerton-themed birthday party in the Hamptons, but photographs showed Ben in Los Angeles at around the same time. Just about two weeks later, she was observed in L.A., noticeably without her wedding ring.
On August 15th, Ben’s 52nd birthday, Jennifer didn’t make a birthday post for him on social media. However, as per pictures acquired by Page Six, the “Jenny From the Block” singer did visit his home on that day.
Following several months of rumors and anticipation, Jennifer officially initiated divorce proceedings against Ben on August 20th at the Los Angeles County Superior Court. In the submitted paperwork, obtained by TMZ, she listed April 26 as the separation date between them.
