DC’s Jai Courtney “Would Love” to See Captain Boomerang Return

DC's Jai Courtney "Would Love" to See Captain Boomerang Return

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the DC Universe, I can wholeheartedly agree with Jai Courtney’s sentiments about Captain Boomerang. The character’s charm and humor are undeniable, and Courtney’s portrayal of him was spot-on.

Following his role in the critically panned “Suicide Squad” in 2016 and reprising his character’s death in the opening scene of “The Suicide Squad” in 2021, Jai Courtney remains dedicated to Captain Boomerang. The actor and character have formed a strong bond, with Courtney breathing life into the talkative villain, making him a beloved fan favorite. With James Gunn directing “The Suicide Squad” in 2024 as part of a new DC Universe, could this be an opportunity for Courtney to rejoin the franchise?

In a recent interview, ComicBook had a chat with Courtney regarding his latest movie titled “Catching Dust“. This movie can be watched in certain cinemas and also through video-on-demand services. When we asked about the possibility of him appearing as a new character within DC comics, he showed no signs of changing his stance; either he’s ‘Boomerang’ or ‘Bust’.

Courtney expressed, “At the moment, no. I’ve always been quite open about it. Boomerang was really enjoyable to play. I’d be thrilled if he returned in some form.” She added, “It seems unimaginable at this point that he’s on DC’s list. However, who knows? I’ve always had a fantasy of creating an origin story for him. He may not be the most popular character from that universe, but playing with him was so much fun and I believe that introducing something lighthearted, perhaps even slightly irreverent, within that realm would be delightful.”

Sure thing! “If someone calls about reviving that aspect of things, I’d be open to considering it.”

According to Courtney, he openly expressed his wish to reintroduce Captain Boomerang into another tale. In fact, it was in the year 2022, a year following the character’s demise in The Suicide Squad, that Courtney proposed the concept of a Captain Boomerang television series.

As a gamer, let me tell you that the realm of TV streaming today is truly exhilarating! The thought of diving deeper into longer format content and giving characters more room to breathe sounds absolutely fascinating to me. I’ve got some notions brewing about a character like Captain Boomerang – he’s just too fun not to explore further. I think it would be fantastic to uncover his backstory, understand his role within the DC universe – that would be really engrossing, wouldn’t it?

“I’m not sure if there are plans for a solo movie right now, but honestly, it would be great fun to reprise that role. It’s a character I could play over and over again, almost too effortlessly for me. However, I believe there’s immense potential for enjoyment with something like that, and we could truly explore the limits of what can be done. So, if Warner Brothers gives me a call to put on that jacket once more, I’d be more than happy to cooperate.”
