Marvel Reveals Bleak Fate of Ultimate Fantastic Four

As a long-time Marvel fan, I’ve seen my fair share of heartbreak and triumph, but the fate of the Ultimate Fantastic Four in the Ultimate Universe has left me utterly shattered. The latest issue of Ultimates has peeled back the layers of deception to reveal a chilling truth – the Maker was responsible for the tragic demise of one of Marvel’s most beloved super teams.

In the alternate universe known as the Ultimate Universe, Marvel’s First Family faces a far more grim destiny. Marvel has recently reintroduced this universe through a series of four comics, with “The Ultimates” being the latest addition. This revamped Ultimate Universe is under the influence of a malevolent version of Reed Richards from the original universe, called The Maker. A young Tony Stark leads the Ultimates, gathering heroes to combat the destruction caused by The Maker. With fans eager to discover the fate of the Ultimate Fantastic Four, the latest installment of “Ultimates” offers insights into what befell their beloved super team

❗Attention: This article includes plot details from Ultimate Fantastic Four Issue 4. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers!

In issue #4 of the revamped Fantastic Four series, we have the talented trio of Deniz Camp, Phil Noto, and Travis Lanham (lettering) at the helm. The narrative unfolds from four distinct viewpoints, gradually unveiling how the Maker orchestrated events to thwart the Fantastic Four’s rise as the heroes they were meant to be. One of the characters in this Ultimate team is Doom, who in this universe isn’t Victor Von Doom but rather Reed Richards from the Ultimates. After being cautioned by Iron Lad against using the Immortus Engine, Doom seizes control of it to travel back in time, giving readers a glimpse into what became of the Ultimate FF

At a young age, Reed Richards’ extraordinary intellect was evident, enabling him to skip ahead in college. During this time, he shared a room with Ben Grimm. As recalled by Fantastic Four enthusiasts, events unfolded as follows: meeting Susan Storm and developing feelings for her, encountering her sibling Johnny Storm, embarking on a space voyage that bestowed them with their powers, and so on. However, what might not be apparent is that Maker was the one who orchestrated the mishap during this space flight

What happened to the Ultimate Fantastic Four?

In my gaming world, instead of the cosmic rays from our botched space voyage bestowing the Fantastic Four their superpowers, it turns out ol’ Reed Richards’ calculations were tweaked by the Maker, leading to the disaster. To add insult to injury, Sue Storm’s dad had warned us about overspending and cancelling the flight, but we went ahead with Reed, Sue, Ben Grimm, and even Johnny Storm, despite the warning

Up in the sky, they failed to catch their chance amidst the celestial tempest. Subsequently, their cockpit was pelted with fire, claiming the life of Johnny. The remaining trio were accused and faced trial, with Ben taking his own life in a deserted stone pit. Whether he genuinely took his life or if Maker played a role in his demise remains uncertain. In the meantime, Sue Storm is gradually succumbing to radiation sickness

After Reed Richards becomes the sole surviving member of the Fantastic Four, Maker captures him, subjects him to torment and mind control, leading Reed to think he is Doom and wear Doctor Doom’s signature mask. Meanwhile, The Ultimates’ version of Doom observes these events unfold and conducts tests on rats, attempting to reenact the cosmic incident that was supposed to form the Fantastic Four. However, for now, the tests are unsuccessful as the mice continue to perish, indicating a failure in his experiments

Is it possible that there could be an Ultimate Fantastic Four at some stage in the future, given Doom’s ability to grant FF powers if his tests are successful? If Doom can manage to advance his tests to a point where he can bestow these powers, would he travel back in time to save his loved ones and friends? Furthermore, what transpires when he discovers that the Maker is none other than Reed Richards himself?
