Drew McIntyre Was "Surprised" By CM Punk at WWE SummerSlam

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast with over two decades of watching and analyzing the sport, I must say that CM Punk’s return to WWE has been nothing short of exhilarating! His grit, determination, and raw talent have left me in awe at every turn.

CM Punk has fought in five matches since his return to the WWE last December. Known as The Second City Saint, he made his debut under the WWE banner, defeating Dominik Mysterio at a special event. A month later, he joined the Men’s Royal Rumble Match, lasting for 21 minutes before being eliminated by Cody Rhodes. However, during the match, Punk tore his triceps, keeping him out of action for the next seven months. He made his comeback at WWE SummerSlam in a match he lost to Drew McIntyre. Since then, he’s been actively involved on the WWE roster, appearing regularly on Monday Night Raw, but has only wrestled during premium live events so far

The Scottish Warrior was not expecting the Voice of the Voiceless to pack such a punch.

At Fanatics Fest in August, Drew McIntyre revealed his surprise at the in-ring prowess displayed by CM Punk during their initial one-on-one match at WWE SummerSlam

McIntyre commented, “Let’s avoid exaggeration and say the match had a steady rhythm. Despite my towering 6-foot-5, 280-pound frame, when he claims his greatest asset is his heart, it rings true. It’s not just about his heart; he’s one of the most obstinate individuals on earth. He’s so stubborn that he refuses to quit, constantly pushing ahead. I was taken aback by the force of the first punch I received. I was also startled by his persistent kicking. Above all, I was taken aback by his endurance, his stamina. He took me off guard in that aspect.”

In their WWE SummerSlam bout, McIntyre and Punk’s contest lasted approximately 17 minutes before McIntyre ultimately emerged victorious. This was achieved through a tactical low blow and a powerful Claymore move against his longstanding adversary, ensuring a decisive win with the 1-2-3 count

“For a decade, I’ve faced top-tier opponents, and he remains among them. He’s still capable in the ring, but what truly stands out is his unyielding spirit. That tenacity is like a gift for me because I know he won’t quit until his body does, and I have no qualms about ensuring that.”

In the wrestling event “WWE Bash in Berlin,” Punk regained his victory over McIntyre in a Strap Match. Two days after, McIntyre responded with a fierce attack on “WWE Monday Night Raw.” This is expected to lead to their third and presumably final encounter at “WWE Bad Blood.”
