As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of professional wrestling, I must say that the news of Dax Harwood setting his retirement plans in motion is both heartwarming and bittersweet. Heartwarming, because it’s inspiring to see someone as accomplished as him planning for a future where he can share his passion and experience with others. Bitterweet, because the thought of FTR, one of the most decorated active tag teams, hanging up their boots is a tough pill to swallow.
So far, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has only seen one retirement, which was Sting’s back in March. Known for his long career spanning decades, Sting ended his in-ring days during AEW Revolution, marking the culmination of a four-year revival within AEW. Most of the AEW roster is currently active and thriving under Tony Khan’s promotion, with no plans to retire just yet. Notable veterans like Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson have hinted at retirement, but they haven’t made that move as of now
Dax Harwood Sets Retirement Plans in Motion
One former AEW titleholder is already planning for his life after wrestling.
On his Instagram, the previous AEW World Tag Team Champion Dax Harwood shared that his retirement preparations are underway, as he’s now organizing the layout of his upcoming wrestling training facility
Harwood shared, “Once I step out of the ring, things are already set in motion. I can’t reveal too much, but here’s a hint: there’s a wrestling ring, a building, and necessary equipment. My friends and I aim to establish a wrestling school. That’s all I can say for now. This dream could potentially become a reality for others, just as it did for me over the past 20 years.”
Since summer 2020, Harwood has been a part of AEW, teaming up with Cash Wheeler as FTR in their tag team division. AEW provided a fresh start for the duo previously known as The Revival, as the struggles within WWE that Harwood and Wheeler had experienced prior to joining AEW were widely publicized. FTR swiftly won the AEW World Tag Team Titles and regained them in 2023
In early 2023, FTR extended their contract with AEW and disclosed that they will retire from wrestling once their agreements end. They have both committed to a four-year term, so their final chapter in wrestling is expected around early 2027, bringing an end to the illustrious careers of the Shatter Machine’s creators
This year, Harwood surpassed two decades in the world of professional wrestling. Prior to joining WWE, he grappled on the independent scene for eight years. In 2013, he made his way to the WWE Performance Center. Over time, Harwood switched tag partners and alliances, but he truly found success when he paired up with Wheeler in mid-2014. Since then, they have been an unstoppable team. Currently, Harwood and Wheeler are among the most honored active tag teams, having claimed tag titles across WWE, NXT, AEW, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Ring of Honor
