Monopoly Gets a Wicked New Edition

Monopoly Gets a Wicked New Edition

As a seasoned gamer with a heart for musicals and a penchant for collecting unique Monopoly editions, this Wicked-themed version is right up my alley! With its captivating design featuring iconic items from the Broadway hit, I can’t help but be enchanted by the prospect of playing as Elphaba or Glinda.

The first part of the much-awaited movie adaptation of the Broadway musical “Wicked,” featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, is set to hit theaters during the holiday season. However, you can kick off the excitement a little early with this special edition of Monopoly themed around “Wicked.” You’ll have the chance to buy, sell, and own locations inspired by Shiz University and the Emerald City using 6 unique golden zinc tokens modeled after Elphaba’s hat, Elphaba’s Broom, Elphaba’s Bottle, Glinda’s Crown, Glinda’s Trunks, and The Grimmerie. Pre-orders are now available on Amazon and Entertainment Earth for $29.99, with the game expected to arrive on October 1st, coinciding with the release of the upcoming LEGO “Wicked” sets

In this game, you’ll take on the role of a student at Shiz University, an institution known for its top-notch education and incredible friendships. However, there are rumors of strange occurrences in Oz. Your goal is to earn the Wizard’s invitation by discovering various locations, transportation methods, and commodities across the land. Along the way, you’ll assist animals and fellow Ozians. The more assets a player accumulates, the more Ozian coins they can collect from other players. The game ends when all but one player has gone bankrupt, and that last remaining player with money is declared the winner!

When Is Wicked Being Released?

As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement! “Wicked: Part One” hits theaters on November 22, 2024, followed by “Wicked: Part Two” on November 26, 2025. The director, Jon Chu, surprised us all by splitting the movie into two parts instead of one grand release. In a formal announcement from the production team, he shared that the story has grown so vast it demands two halves to do justice

Last year, Chu stated that in the process of creating the film adaptation of “Wicked” over the past year, it proved challenging to condense the story into a single movie without causing significant harm. As they attempted to eliminate songs or reduce characters, these choices felt like severe sacrifices to the cherished source material that has entertained us for decades. Instead, they opted to expand their creative scope and produce not one but two “Wicked” movies! This larger canvas allows them to tell the story of “Wicked” as originally intended, adding more layers and unexpected elements to the journeys of our cherished characters

Chu added, “Cynthia, Ariana, and I, along with the entire cast and team, promise to deliver an experience that respects its roots for everyone who’s been eagerly awaiting this film. We aim to provide a captivating, magical universe filled with vibrant characters, welcoming those who are new as well.”
