South Park Won't Return Until 2025 Citing Election Year

As a die-hard South Park fan since its inception back in ’97, I’ve grown accustomed to their unique blend of humor, satire, and social commentary. Over the years, they’ve managed to keep me entertained through thick and thin, tackling everything from political scandals to global pandemics with a wit that few can match. So, when I heard the news about South Park returning in 2025 instead of this year’s election cycle, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.

Ever since its TV debut in 1997, the show “South Park” has kept audiences entertained with the outrageous and bizarre escapades of characters Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. Unlike most shows, it’s departed from traditional seasons, opting for occasional special episodes instead. The last time we saw a new episode was due to “South Park: The End of Obesity,” which came out in May this year. However, animation enthusiasts eagerly waiting for the show to return before this year’s presidential election might be disappointed according to a recent update

In a recent chat with Variety, the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, have announced that a new season might not air until 2025 or later. They’ve also mentioned that they want to stay away from the upcoming election, and that they’re waiting for Paramount to sort out their current merger issues before resuming production. In previous seasons, South Park hasn’t shied away from political commentary, with characters like Mr. Garrison standing in as Donald Trump during episodes such as “Oh, Jeez”, and remaining as the President for quite some time to reflect real-world politics

South Park Will Return in 2025

Regarding their contemplation on delaying a new South Park project prior to the 2024 U.S. election, Stone expressed his thoughts as follows: “We’ve tackled South Park during four or five presidential elections, and it’s just such a challenging task – it feels like it’s consuming our minds, and we give it an undue significance.” Similarly, South Park co-creator Trey Parker added his perspective, “Clearly, it’s significant, but it tends to dominate everything, and we simply enjoy ourselves less. I can’t imagine what else we could possibly say about Trump.”

You can watch the original series of South Park online through streaming platforms like Paramount+ and MAX. However, only Paramount+ carries the latest special movies, such as “South Park: The End of Obesity”. This new installment on Paramount+ depicts the story where a new line of weight loss drugs causes quite an upheaval in South Park. When Cartman gets rejected from using these revolutionary medications, the kids rally together to take action
