WWE Announcing Details of First Primetime NBC Special Since 2008 Imminently: Report

The Westwood Estate (WWE) has a long-standing relationship with the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). This relationship began with the formation of the Saturday Night’s Main Event in 1985. The WWE title made a return in 2022 when the NBC opted to use it for a portion of their house shows which continued throughout April of this year when it was fizzled out.

In late 2024, WWE plans to resume broadcasting SmackDown on the USA Network for the first time since 2019. This move also involves four primetime specials per year, starting in the 2024/2025 TV season. At the moment, it’s unclear exactly what these specials pertain to, but a report from WrestleVotes suggests WWE may soon reveal more information about their reentry on NBC since 2008. Some within the company speculate this could happen around December. Tickets for the upcoming special event are expected to go on sale next Friday

Beginning next week, WWE SmackDown will return exclusively to USA Network, joining Monday Night Raw and WWE NXT for the rest of their agreements. Notably, NXT will soon transition to The CW, featuring a high-can’s-signature match between newly signed-notable match between newly signed–crucial bout between new WWE recruit Giulia and current NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez, as well as an anticipated cameo from CM Punk. Simultaneously, Monday Night Raw is set to make a powerful premiere on Netflix in 2025, with additional offerings promised for fans to savor

Speaking last September, WWE President Nick Khan expressed that NBCUniversal has been a significant collaborator for many years. He’s thrilled about prolonging this long-term alliance, as SmackDown will now air on USA Network every Friday night, and they eagerly anticipate premiering several WWE special events annually on NBC

Since Khan mentioned earlier, WWE has had a long-standing partnership with NBC that started in 1985 with the debut of Saturday Night’s Main Event. This show aired on NBC and essentially filled in for Saturday Night Live. Each episode featured popular superstars in unusual matchups, serving much like a Pay-Per-View event in today’s market. WWE and NBC briefly revisited this concept in the early 2000s. The Saturday Night’s Main Event title resurfaced in 2022 when WWE began using it for some of their live events, which continued until April of this year when the series was discontinued
