Rileasa Slaves, hailing from the Caribbean, has faced her fears head-on, transforming herself into a superstar through drag. Her journey mirrors that of Rihanna, another powerful figure who rose from humble beginnings to global stardom.


The popular TV show, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, returns for its sixth installment, offering fresh surprises, increased humor, and an abundance of wit and charm that surpasses previous seasons.

This year’s competition for the title of the UK’s next Drag Race sensation will feature both rising stars and experienced drag queens, spanning over 10 weeks as they face various challenges and popular games to prove their worth.

Each week’s victor will continue to receive the prestigious RuPeter badge, whereas those at the bottom will confront the feared lip sync battle.

This year, Ru will be accompanied by Michelle Visage, Alan Carr, Graham Norton, as well as some famous guest judges such as Mabel and Simon Le Bon.

Chanel O’Conor initially encountered the world of drag while watching humor shows featuring Lily Savage and Dame Edna as a kid.

It was from watching them that she became “obsessed and fell completely in love with drag”.

In her words, “As a child, I would travel off the island each Saturday for a drama workshop on the mainland. It was there that I found my deep-seated passion for crafting characters.”

“Starting from there, I brought a drag show to the Edinburgh Fringe, and it really picked up momentum. Now, I’ve been performing in drag for eight years!”

Charra Tea

In a casual and straightforward manner: Charra Tea, as a child, had a knack for the arts and was particularly fond of vibrant hues, much like the lively tones of Belfast’s accent that caught her attention. These preferences are reflected in her drag performances.

“Some people call it tacky, but I love that and I embrace tacky!”

After seeing the movie Hairspray, Charra Tea found inspiration in the world of drag. She reflected, “I want to try that,” and ever since then, she’s been actively participating in drag performances for about five years.

“I love the transformation and confidence that drag gives me.”

Dita Garbo

In drag, Dita Garbo serves “burlesque Hollywood glamour”.

In other words, she elaborated by stating: “My inspirations are the burlesque legend Dita Von Teese and classic Hollywood actress Greta Garbo. I often describe myself as the burlesque offspring of Dita Von Teese and Greta Garbo! However, when necessary, I’m capable of changing my style to stay current with today’s generation!”

As for what challenges she is looking forward to, Dita can sew, dance and sing!

Kiki Snatch isn’t just a look queen, she is also a big performance queen!

“She stated before her performance that she could dance, sing, and maintain an attractive appearance while doing so. In anticipation of the show, Kiki assures a joyful experience filled with cartwheels, splits, dips, tricks, and games for everyone!”

Kiki is “so excited” to be a Ru Girl in this year’s season.

She mentioned, “That’s where I was when I received the call,” she explained. “I was moments away from beginning my workday when I heard ‘Congratulations!’ ring through. Overwhelmed, I didn’t have the ability to shout aloud, so I suppressed a scream and hid myself for a brief moment, before gathering my thoughts!”

Kyran Thrax

La Voix has a long-standing relationship with the stage, with appearances on Britain’s Got Talent, roles in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, nearly two decades of panto performances, and a whopping 80 stints on cruise ships!

As a seasoned performer, La Voix has felt drawn towards exploring the realm of drag, as it has undergone significant transformation since her initial foray into it two decades back.

Regarding drag’s significance for her, Rileasa Slaves expressed: “When I first donned drag, I was filled with bone-deep fear.”

“Growing up with a strong religious background in the Caribbean, I harbored much fear about my identity as part of the LGBTQ+ community, especially considering the challenges that exist for individuals like myself within the Caribbean society. Embracing Rileasa has granted me the courage to confront and overcome these fears.”

Saki Yew

Some might even say I’m a unique fusion of different drag styles – a ‘Frankenstein drag queen’ of sorts!”

Zahirah Zapanta

As a child, Zahirah Zapanta was often quite extravagant, and her family consistently supported her aspirations of becoming a beauty pageant contestant.

Concerning her experiences with drag, Zahirah explained: “During my teenage years, it seemed like a fitting step to share my passion for makeup and fashion through YouTube videos. This led to me gaining an audience, establishing connections, diving into the world of drag, expanding my knowledge about the craft, and ultimately, I was crowned a beauty queen!”
