Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Beta Patch Nerfed Everyone's Favorite Weapon

As a seasoned Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 player with countless hours under my belt, I can’t help but feel a tinge of nostalgia for the Jackal PDW SMG that once ruled the battlefield during the first beta week. The Jackal PDW was an absolute beast, and I confess, I too abused it shamelessly. However, the recent patch has sent shockwaves through the gaming community as it’s been hit hard with nerfs, and I can’t help but feel a pang of regret for not savoring those glory days just a little longer.

If you’re a player of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” who heavily relied on the Jackal PDW SMG during the initial weekend of the beta, it would be wise to have an alternative loadout ready, as its power has been reduced with the start of the second beta weekend. A new update for “Black Ops 6” was released on Friday, as previously hinted by Treyarch, which includes a nerf for the Jackal PDW as one of its key changes, along with an explanation from the developers about why they significantly weakened the Jackal PDW in the beta.

In essence, the changes made in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 update have significantly diminished the Jackal PDW, as predicted due to its overpowering nature in the initial beta. The weapon received minimal benefits from this patch, with a slight boost to headshot multiplier being one of them, but only under specific attachment conditions.

Below are all the changes implemented for the Jackal PDW in the latest Black Ops 6 patch notes:

Jackal PDW

  • Decreased Maximum Damage from 29 -> 26
    • Decreased Maximum Damage range from 15.24m -> 14.61m
  • Decreased Near-Medium Damage from 23 -> 22
    • Decreased Near-Medium Damage range from 22.86m -> 17.78m
  • Decreased Medium Damage from 22 -> 18
    • Decreased Medium Damage range from 29.21m -> 26.04m
  • Decreased Minimum Damage from 19 -> 15
  • Small increase to view kick strength and view kick deviation.
  • CHF Barrel
    • Headshot multiplier improved from 1.2 -> 1.4

The Black Ops 6 team explained the modifications and provided the rationale for these adjustments in a companion article that accompanied the nerfs.

“The Jackal PDW excels in handling and mobility, but has a slower firing rate than most other automatic weapons in the game. It was performing better than expected at medium ranges, so we’ve made some adjustments. We’ve increased the damage drop-off and reduced the effective range slightly, as well as slightly increasing its recoil. The maximum damage and CHF Barrel headshot multiplier have been adjusted to keep the same number of hits required to kill, while still using the attachment.”

Instead of reducing the power of the Jackal PDW, the C9 SMG received a minor boost that increased its mid-range damage threshold from 25.4m to 27.31m. Additionally, movement speeds while carrying various weapons were revised, and these modifications, along with others, are detailed in the comprehensive Black Ops 6 patch notes.
