Dragon Ball Daima: Why Is the Demon Realm Involved?

As a hardcore Dragon Ball fan who’s been following this epic saga since I was a kid, let me tell you, the latest news about the Demon Realm appearing in Dragon Ball Daima has sent shivers down my spine! I remember the first time I saw that ominous, dark realm on my old CRT TV back in the day. It was like a breath of fresh terror amidst all those fights against aliens and androids.

In the latest Dragon Ball Daima trailer, it’s been confirmed that a significant location from the shonen series will feature prominently – the Demon Realm, also known as the Dark Demon Realm. Despite having limited focus in the main narrative thus far, this October promises to change that. With characters like Grilio and Panzy set to debut, it’s clear that Son Goku is set to acquire some demonic companions and may even engage in battles against inhabitants of the Demon Realm. Given these developments, there couldn’t be a more opportune time to delve into the history of the Demon Realm and explore why it could play a pivotal role in Daima’s storyline.

The Demon Realm might not have played a major part in Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Super, but it has been an essential part of the Dragon Ball Heroes storyline. The spin-off series that takes place outside of the main continuity is one that has routinely seen threats and friends come out of its landscape. The Time Patrol has sent its strongest fighters to take on the villains that have appeared including Demigra, Yamma, Makma, and many more. There is one specific villain that Dragon Ball Z fans are well acquainted with who hailed from this world and might just be a big impetus for Daima.

In another dimension, Dabura, a prominent antagonist of the Demon Realm, wasn’t merely born there but held the title of king. Although he didn’t meet his end at the hands of the Z-Fighters, instead being consumed by Majin Buu following his transformation into chocolate, Dabura did engage in combat with Gohan and served under Babidi. The belief among Demon Realm inhabitants that Dabura was wronged and that Goku and his allies are to blame for his demise is a solid motivation for the emergence of the enigmatic new adversaries.

The Demon Realm, with its roots in the original series, presents an intriguing backdrop for “Mini” Goku’s adventures. It’s not a place known for its warmth and hospitality, so it’s likely to catch the Z-Fighters off guard, especially since they’ve got new bodies. When Dragon Ball Super introduced a narrative reminiscent of Dragon Ball GT, introducing the Demon Realm could have been Akira Toriyama’s way of adding his unique touch to aspects of the shonen genre that were delved into in spin-offs.
