As a seasoned gamer and action movie enthusiast with a penchant for adrenaline-fueled sequences, I must say that J.J. Perry’s choice of his favorite stunt in “The Killer’s Game” is a testament to the filmmaker’s prowess. The motorcycle sequence, involving X Games trick riders, is undeniably captivating and adds an extra layer of excitement to the already action-packed movie.
In an interview with ComicBook, director J.J. Perry shared his favorite stunt sequence in “The Killer’s Game.” During their discussion about the film’s impressive action scenes, Perry highlighted a particular moment set in a church as one not to be missed. Remarkably, the crew had to navigate using pyrotechnics in this location without attracting the attention of authorities or onlookers. Interestingly, Perry mentioned that incorporating romance and humor into “The Killer’s Game” proved to be challenging tasks. You can watch our exclusive interview with the director above and read his thoughts below.
Perry revealed that the movie was filmed in just 42 days, making it an incredibly quick production. He has an incredible action team consisting of Justin Yu, Troy Robinson, and Felix Betancourt, and they really delivered during the motorcycle sequence, which was truly spectacular as they were X Games trick riders. Overall, he found the experience enjoyable, with all the fight scenes being particularly cool. However, when it came to getting the love story and comedy right, that was a challenge for him since action is something he’s been comfortable with for 34 years. In other words, while action is familiar territory for him, balancing the romantic and comedic elements of the film proved to be more difficult.
The director added, “During filming in that church, we weren’t supposed to use many fire effects. In truth, I find myself asking for understanding as I may have had to resort to an emergency solution. This was a rare occasion where I needed a last-minute solution. Given the location of the Catholic church nearby, I could simply go inside and seek forgiveness if needed.
What Is The Killer’s Game About?
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “I’m Joe Flood, top-tier hitman, but recently diagnosed with a terminal illness. Instead of waiting for the inevitable, I decide to orchestrate my own demise. But when my ex-girlfriend, Sofia Boutella, becomes the target of the very assassins I hired, I find myself in a race against time. I must outsmart my colleagues and win back her love before it’s game over for good. Presented by Lionsgate, this is ‘The Killer’s Game’, a Mad Chance & Endurance Media production, in association with Dogbone Entertainment, K. Jam Media, and Lipsync.
