Barry Keoghan Comments on Returning as the Joker In The Batman Part II

As a die-hard DC fan with over two decades of comic book lore under my belt, I can’t help but feel the anticipation building for Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II. While I’m not privy to the inner workings of Warner Bros., one thing is crystal clear: Barry Keoghan’s Joker needs to make a comeback in the sequel!

Regarding “The Batman Part II”, many aspects of its long-awaited continuation directed by Matt Reeves are still unclear, but there’s one aspect that fans of the DC film series eagerly anticipate: Barry Keoghan reprising his role as The Joker when the movie releases in October 2026. Keoghan initially played the infamous antagonist, albeit briefly, during the closing scenes of the first film, sharing a conversation with Paul Dano’s Riddler in Arkham. In an interview with “Variety”, Keoghan hinted at a possible return to the role for the sequel, though he remains tight-lipped about the details.

Keoghan replied enthusiastically when asked about reprising his role in The Batman Part II. “I’m not allowed to reveal too much,” he admitted, hinting at the mystery surrounding him. “The spotlight is on me. Let’s see where this leads. It was a remarkable journey… and yes, I can’t share any more details.

In this recent interview, Keoghan’s response aligns with his previous statements on the possibility of a Joker return. Last autumn, when asked about reprising the role in the sequel, he didn’t give a definitive answer but did express enthusiasm for the prospect, calling it “exciting.

As for that matter, I don’t have much to add, buddy,” Keoghan mentioned. “However, wouldn’t it be thrilling though, to witness The Joker reappear?

The Penguin is Confirmed to Return For The Batman Part II

Although there’s still doubt about whether Keoghan’s portrayal of The Joker will appear in The Batman Part I, it’s been confirmed that Colin Farrell’s character, Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, will be present. Reeves has also shared that Farrell is part of the film and mentioned he’s working on the script for the sequel as well.

“Colin is included in the film,” he mentioned. “We’ve given them the screenplay as we progressed with DC and the production company, and they’re thrilled about it.

In an upcoming turn, Colin Farrell’s character from Penguin will be featured in HBO’s show titled The Penguin. This series is categorized as a grand crime narrative that follows Farrell’s villain as he navigates his way to power within the criminal underworld of Gotham, encountering challenges posed by characters like Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone, who is the daughter of Carmine Falcone. The series is scheduled for its first broadcast on Thursday, September 19th at 9 p.m. ET, with repeats planned over the weekend. Further episodes will be aired every Sunday night, starting from September 29th.

The Penguin is expected to connect to The Batman Part II, something that Reeves recently discussed.

As a gamer, I noticed some intriguing connections between certain elements and how they unfold in the upcoming film. For instance, the manner in which Oz makes his entry into our world seems strikingly similar to how Batman reappears, as if he’s passed me the proverbial ‘baton’ to solve another mystery.

The Batman Part II is set to open in theaters October 2, 2026.
