The Killer's Game Director J.J. Perry Teases Sequel Plans

As a fan who has been hooked on action-packed films since my days of watching martial arts movies on VHS tapes back in the day, I can’t help but be excited about Lionsgate’s upcoming offering, “The Killer’s Game.” With its promising cast led by Dave Bautista and Sofia Boutella, this film seems to be a perfect blend of high-octane action and emotional drama that is sure to captivate audiences.

In the coming weekend, a new action franchise from Lionsgate will grace our cinema screens, and there are certainly discussions about where its narrative may go in future installments. Titled “The Killer’s Game,” this film stars Dave Bautista and Sofia Boutella and revolves around a hitman who places a hit on himself upon learning he has terminal cancer. With appeal similar to films such as “John Wick” or “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” director J.J. Perry has been pondering ways in which “The Killer’s Game” could mimic these successful franchise structures.

Prior to the release of “The Killer’s Game”, Perry discussed the film with ComicBook, and during their conversation, the topic of a possible sequel was raised. The director hinted at a potential trilogy concept, where the initial two films would focus on the characters portrayed by Bautista and Boutella, while the third installment might introduce a child character, much like the “Lone Wolf and Cub” movie series.

Perry replied when asked about a possible sequel, he said, “From you to God, let’s proceed.” He then recalled the 70’s series, Lone Wolf and Cub, where the assassin pushes the baby in the cart. He suggested we start with the two assassins, and for the third installment, we could feature the baby in the cart, with hidden knives. Let’s get going on this idea.

In case you’re unfamiliar, “Lone Wolf and Cub” has been a significant influence on the popular Disney+ show “Star Wars: The Mandalorian”.

What Is The Killer’s Game About?

In the movie titled “The Killer’s Game“, Bautista and Boutella join forces with Pom Klementieff, Ben Kingsley, Scott Adkins, Terrence Crews, Lucy Cork, and WWE champion Drew McIntyre. The film is helmed by director Perry, using a screenplay penned by James Coyne, Simon Kinberg, and Rand Ravich. It’s an adaptation of the novel by Jay Bonansinga.
